MMN Recap 7/06: Beeler Deals Again, Carrillo Hits Grand Slam

Salt Lake 12 vs. Las Vegas 51s (45-40) 5 BOX SCORE

The 51s got their three game winning streak snapped as Salt Lake avoided the sweep with a 12-5 win. The 51s collected just six hits in the loss.

It was Herrera his first game since the 28th of June. Herrera drove in four of the five runs and had the only extra base hits for the 51s. Roger Bernadina had the other RBI. Gavin Cecchini went 0 for 5 in the loss. Travis Taijeron had a tough day as he went 0 for 3 with three strikeouts and an error in the field.

Rafael Montero had another very rough outing as his struggles continue. Over his last ten starts, Montero is 2-5 with a 9.12 ERA. Montero has allowed four or more runs in nine of his last ten starts. Josh Edgin and Chasen Bradford both went two scoreless in relief. Paul Sewald allowed two solo home runs in the ninth.

Binghamton Mets (37-48) 11 vs. Hartford 5 BOX SCORE

After losing the first two games of the series scoring just four runs, the Binghamton offense scored eleven runs in the win. Binghamton had at least a run in six of the nine innings, highlighted by a four-run third.

Carrillo hit his third home run of the season with a two-out grand slam in the third to give Binghamton the lead. Derrik Gibson had his second straight three-hit game, hitting .441 in his last ten. L.J. Mazzilli scored three runs, going 2 for 4 with a triple. Maikis De La Cruz hit two doubles with a run batted in.

Pill has won his last three starts allowing 10 runs in 21 innings over those three wins.

St. Lucie Mets (42-38) 4 vs. Fort Myers 3 BOX SCORE

The St. Lucie Mets won the rubber game of the series with some great work by the bullpen, beating Fort Myers 4-3.

David Thompson made his St. Lucie debut going 0 for 2 with a walk and a run scored. You can read more about his promotion here. Wuilmer Becerra drove in two runs after he went hitless in his last seven at bats before the Wednesday game. Becerra is still hitting .390 over his last ten and his .323 average leads the FSL.

  • Robert Coles RHP: Scoreless inning with a walk. Got his fifth hold. (2.56 ERA)
  • Paul Paez LHP: Perfect inning with two strikeouts. Got his third hold (0.76 ERA)
  • Corey Taylor RHP: Perfect ninth for his 13th save with a strikeout. (1.44 ERA)

Reyes had his second straight outing were he allowed three earned runs. Reyes pitched six scoreless before allowing three runs in the seventh. He left without recording an out in the seventh. Corey Taylor collected his 13th save and is second in the FSL with those 13 saves. Paul Paez keeps impressing this season, in 23.2 innings he allowed just two runs on 19 hits pitching to a 1.01 WHIP.

Columbia Fireflies (41-43) 4 vs. Charleston 1 BOX SCORE

The Fireflies won the rubber game of the series against Charleston. The Fireflies top RBI guy David Thompson was promoted before the game and Eudor Garcia was added to the Fireflies roster.

The Fireflies lineup was shaken up with the promotion off Thompson. Luis Ortega batted second, Kevin Kaczmarski third and Jeff Diehl fourth in the lineup. Diehl responded with a good day driving in his 32nd run. Vicente Lupo, Enmanuel Zabala and J.C. Rodriguez all collected a RBI in the win.

Beeler started his season with seven hitless innings out of the Cyclones bullpen and followed with two great starts for the Fireflies. In those two starts, Beeler has allowed just a run on ten hits in 13.1 innings pitched. For the season, Beeler has pitched 20.1 innings allowing ten hits and two walks while striking out 17. Alex Palsha got his 14th save which is third in the SAL.

Batavia 15 vs. Brooklyn Cyclones (9-11) 2 BOX SCORE

The Cyclones got roughed up allowing 15 runs and collecting just three hits as the Cyclones three game winning streak was snapped.

Ali Sanchez has collected at least a hit in seven of his first nine games.

  • Erik Manoah RHP: 3.1 IP, 7 H, 9 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, L (1-1 6.52 ERA)

Erik Manoah and the rest of the Cyclones pitchers where roughed up allowing 15 runs on 15 hits with six walks.

GCL Astros 8 vs. GCL Mets (6-5) 1 BOX SCORE

The GCL Mets collected just three hits and struck out ten times in the loss against the GCL Astros.

Reed Gamache and Victor Moscote got the other two hits for the GCL Mets. Wagner Lagrange went 0 for 4 lowering his average from .472 to .425 for the season.

De Los Santos had his first rough outing of the season. Before this start he had allowed just a run in 12 innings of work.

DSL Mets1 (13-14) 5 vs. DSL Pirates 2 BOX SCORE

The DSL Mets1 defeated the DSL Pirates 5-2 despite being outhit as three DSL Pirates errors helped the DSL Mets score runs.

Gregory Guerero went hitless in four at bats with a walk, run scored and a strikeout. Edgardo Fermin collected a RBI in the win.

It was Campusano’s second straight start going five innings and allowing four or less hits.

DSL Mets2 (9-19) 15 vs. DSL Astros Orange 8 BOX SCORE

The DSL Mets2 offense erupted with 15 runs. Five DSL Mets2 players had two or more RBIs in the win.

Edinson Valdez, Gilberto Espinoza and Yoel Romero all collected two RBIs. Every starter got at least a base hit expect Hanser Ortiz who walked three times. Andres Gimenez collected another hit, he’s had at least one in 22 of his 26 starts.

  • Jaison Vilera RHP: 5 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, W (1-1 3.54 ERA)

After Vilera threw five hitless innings the bullpen allowed seven hits on eight runs in the victory.
