Omaha 2, Las Vegas 51s 1 (49-45) Box Score
- Brandon Nimmo CF 2 for 4, R, .331/.410/.508
- Travis Taijeron RF 1 for 3, K, .307/.395/.565
Nimmo returned to the lineup in style as he collected two hits. If De Aza is designated for assignment (God bless us all if he is), Nimmo should definitely be the guy the Mets turn to.
- Gabriel Ynoa RHP 7 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 2 K (L, 9-4, 4.09 ERA)
- Jim Henderson RHP 1 IP, 2 K, three consecutive scoreless innings.
Ynoa, who has struggled as of late, pitched very well, but picked up his 4th loss of the year as the offense couldn’t get it done. Jim Henderson continues to look healthy in his rehab assignment as he picked up two strikeouts. Henderson could and should return soon, with Goeddel struggling lately.
Binghamton Mets (41-51) 5, Bowie 2 Box Score
- Champ Stuart CF 1 for 4, 2B, .242/.306/.364
- Amed Rosario SS 2 for 4, 2B, 3B, R .410/.472/.603
- Dominic Smith 1B 2 for 3, HR, 2 RBI, R .293/.353/.460
All Amed has done since his very well deserved promotion is hit, he has hit in 20 of his 21 games with the B-Mets. Smith hit his 11th HR of the year as he continues to extend his career high.
- Tyler Pill RHP 7 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K (W, 7-8, 3.85)
Pill pitched very well, which is a surprise. We all know Michael & I would much rather see Pill hit on a consistent basis than pitch, but you can’t deny that he has been impressive as of late. He tied the B-Mets team record with his 23rd career victory with them.
St. Lucie Mets (50-41) 9, Tampa 1 Box Score
- David Thompson 3B 2 for 5, 2B, RBI, 2 K, .256/.309/.394
- Tomas Nido C 1 for 4, 2 RBI, BB, K, .319/.358/.471
- Jhoan Urena DH 0 for 2, 2 R, 3 BB, K, .224/.290/.354
Tomas Nido has had a breakout season and continues to be one of the more underrated prospects in the Mets’ system.
- Ricky Knapp RHP 6.2 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K (W, 9-4, 2.14)
- Alex Palsha RHP 1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 4 K
Knapp continues to be one of St. Lucie’s most trusted starters as he picked up his 9th win of the year. Palsha has also looked great since being promoted from Columbia and has still not allowed a run with them.
Columbia Fireflies: Suspended, tied at 0.
Brooklyn Cyclones 6 (14-17), Hudson Valley 3 Box Score
- Ali Sanchez C 1 for 3, R, 2 BB, .250/.311/.309
- Peter Alonso 1B 2 for 4, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, BB, .289/.372/.553
- Blake Tiberi 3B 1 for 4, R, 2B, BB, .208/.289/.278
- Colby Woodmansee SS 2 for 5, R, 2 RBI, K, .284/.330/.368
Brooklyn got the bats going as they collected their first RBI in 29 innings thanks to Woodmansee’s two-run single. I am a huge fan of him and being that I have followed Brooklyn extensively since that start of their season, it has been awesome watching him play. Peter Alonso looked very good today as he launched his 2nd pro homer, a two-run shot and a long double off of the wall.
- Erik Manoah RHP 5 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, BB, K (W, 3-1, 4.75)
While his ERA may not show it, Manoah has been very solid on the mound for Brooklyn.
Burlington Royals 8, Kingsport Mets (11-13) 2 Box Score
- Jose Maria C 2 for 3, R, .400/.467/.600
- Walter Rasquin 2B 0 for 4, K, .375/.453/.518
Maria had a great day at the plate as he has looked very good with the bat. Rasquin, who was red hot, cooled down today as he went 0-for-4.
- Jordan Humphreys RHP 6 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, BB, 8 K (ND, 4.00 ERA)
- Trent Johnson RHP 0.0 IP, 6 H, 6 ER (L, 0-2, 14.29 ERA)
Jordan Humphreys has looked very good for Kingsport as well, but has been overshadowed by Szapucki and Wotell.
GCL Mets (11-9) 4, GCL Marlins 2 Box Score
- Desmond Lindsay CF 1 for 2, BB, K, .250/.500/.250
- Kenny Hernandez DH 1 for 4, R, 2B, 3 K, .250/.314/.313
- Wagner Lagrange LF 2 for 4, R, 2 RBI, .299/.357/.351
Lindsay and Hernandez returned to the lineup after battling some injuries. Lindsay hopes to head to Brooklyn soon, but health is the main concern with him.
- Kyle Regnault LHP 1 IP, 2 K (2.25 ERA)
- Chase Huchingson LHP 0.2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, BB, K (3.38 ERA)
- Sixto Torres LHP 5 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K (W, 2-1, 1.89 ERA)
Regnault and Huchingson are looking to come back after dealing with injuries. Sixto Torres, who probably has one of the coolest names ever, has impressed lately as he picked up 5 K’s. He now has 21 in 19 innings this season.
DSL Mets 1 (19-17) 8, DSL Pirates 2 Box Score
- Hansel Morreno 3B 2 for 2, 2 R, 2 3B, 2 RBI, BB, .314/.381/.466
- Andres Gimenez 2B 0 for 4, RBI, BB, SB, R, .339/.443/.512
- Raul Beracierta CF 2 for 3, BB, R, .374/.437/.467
- Gregory Guerrero SS 0 for 3, HBP, R, .278/.361/.310
DSL Astros 7, DSL Mets2 (14-23) 4 Box Score
- Luis Santana 2B 2 for 4, RBI, .375/.375/.500
The DSL Mets collected 8 hits, and Santana was the most impressive of the hitters today.
So happy to see Rosario and Smith continue to produce. Smith has really turned it on since Rosario arrived.
Who is Wagner Lagrange? Is he someone we need to look out for? 80 grade name.
This year Pill’s pitching is actually outshining his hitting (which is good considering he is still technically a pitcher). His .250 batting average this year is really bringing down that .377 career line. It’s only 66 at bats, but for those who think most of that is Vegas influenced, he’s actually hitting .409 for his career in Binghamton.
Also, I grow more excited for Smith and Rosario with each day. They were fine apart from each other, but they’ve really turned it on now that they’re on the same team. Maybe they should just never be separated.
Mets Sterling Award winner for DSL last year. Definitely one to keep an eye on.
Very premature opine; but the talent in the low minors K’Port and below is very deep. There are a few names equipped with the tools that that could make their way into some national publications in a few years
Disagree on their calling up Nimmo if DeAza is DFA’d. Not saying it won’t happen, but would much rather see Nimmo spend the rest of the year down in AAA to get regular playing time and work on his game – in particular, really attacking the pitch when he gets into a hitters count. Unless there is an injury leading to a need for him, let him develop to see if he can be come a solid everyday player.
Why was Gimenez switched to second base and matched up with Guerrero? Taking Gimenez off short this quickly in his professional career? Couldn’t it wait a bit for the kid?
Does Nido see AA this year?
My guess is that it is not permanent. Just like they had Guillorme playing SS while Rosario was with him in St. Lucie. Sometimes you’ll have overlap at the same position at the same level, so guys move around a little.
If they alternate, ok, even though I don’t understand it. Otherwise, it’s kiss up to the Guerrero family in the Dominican and that can hurt a young Giminez’s psyche. After all, they have two teams…
Is there much of a difference talent wise between DSL1 and DSL2? I’m guessing there must be, or else the Mets would have kept the Gimenez and Guerrero apart.
Obviously, I have no idea what the Mets plans are for either in the short run (I would assume they would alternate, but as you suggest, sometimes politics or other factors can play a role) or in the long run (do they see either as a legit LT SS, or are either or both likely to move off the position?)
I guess in the end it does not seem as big a deal to me, but I understand your concern and hope it is simply misplaced (either because they alternate, or Gimenez either does not view it as a knock being that he was effectively “called up”, or uses it as motivation if he feels he is being slighted).
Doubtful. Catchers are generally year to year.
They loaded up the DSL1 team for the playoff stretch.
Not permanent, they’re loading up the DSL team for the playoff stretch.
Thanks. BTW, is there a difference in competition between DSL1 and DSL2?
not really, but they do seem to only play DSL1 teams if they’re DSL1 and visa versa. It’s like two leagues of the same competition level in one.
Thanks Teddy. I always wondered about that.
