MMN Recap 7/9: Conforto Homers, Peter Alonso Makes Debut

Alburquerque 8 vs. Las Vegas 51s (46-43) 5 BOX SCORE

The 51s drop their third in a row in the final game before all star game, losing to the Isotopes (37-53) by a 8-5 final score.

Michael Conforto is back to being an all field hitter. His homerun was to left-center, his triple over the center fielder and his single also to center. Reynolds has at least a hit in all four games since he was send down. He has gone 8 for 16 with three runs batted in and no strikeouts in those four games. Plawecki hit his third homerun of the year in Vegas, his .610 slugging is impressive, even in Las Vegas.

It was Gsellman’s first outing since the eleventh of June. He did not fair well allowing five earned in three innings in both his starts for Las Vegas. Gsellman did threw a lot of strikes as 42 of his 58 pitches were for strikes. Former 51s, Alex Castellanos went deep against Sean Gilmartin in the seventh.

Clearwater 4 vs. St. Lucie Mets (44-39) 3 BOX SCORE

The St. Lucie Mets got their three game winning streak snapped as Domingo Tapia allowed the walk-off homerun to Derek Campbell. It was Campbell’s second homerun of the game.

After starting 0 for 7, Thompson is 3 for 7 in his last two games for the St. Lucie Mets. Luis Guillorme drove in the second run and scored the tying run after his RBI triple in the ninth.. Urena has hit .406 in his last ten games, driving in eleven in those ten games.

P.J. Conlon keeps pitching well this season, after dominating the South Atlantic League with a 1.84 ERA he keeps impressing with a 2.33 ERA with St. Lucie. Conlon is combined 10-1 with a 1.97 ERA. Domingo Tapia allowed the walk-off in the ninth after pitching a scoreless eighth.

Augusta 8 vs. Columbia Fireflies (41-46) 4 BOX SCORE

The Fireflies collected twelve hits but, left eleven on base in the 8-4 loss. They lost their third straight against the Augusta GreenJackets (47-40).

Kaczmarski had hit second straight three-hit game. He hit his second home run of the season, a two-run homer in the seventh. Eudor Garcia has a four game hitting streak going, collecting his second multi-hit game. Milton Ramos and Dale Burdick both collected a multi-hit game in the loss.

Chase Ingram has been really inconsistent this season. Over his last ten start Ingram allowed two runs or less in five of the ten. In the other five starts he allowed a total of 32 runs in 19.1 innings. Ingram got his eighth loss, which is tied for the most in the SAL. Johnny Magliozzi has a 1.59 ERA in his last 22.2 innings pitched.

Hudson Valley 5 vs. Brooklyn Cyclones (9-13) 2 BOX SCORE

Colby Woodmansee went 1 for 3 without striking out.

Harol Gonzalez pitched another fine ballgame. He has struck out at least five in all five starts this season. Gonzalez leads the NY-Penn league with 36 strikeouts. Adam Atkins got the loss allowing four runs in the eight to blow a 2-1 Cyclones lead.

Kinsport Mets (6-10) 10 vs. Danville 8 BOX SCORE

The Kingsport Mets won the series opener against Danville 10-8. Kingsport collected ten hits and walked seven times in the victory.

Ricardo Cespedes has a six-game hitting streak going. He is hitting .357 over his last ten. He had his fifth multi hit game in his last ten games. Gamache made his Kingsport debut after hitting .455/.481/.591 in six games with the GCL Mets.

  • Max Kuhns LHP: IP, 2 H, ER, First career save (4.50 ERA)

Max Wotell made his third start of the season, he’s pitched well in all three starts allowing just eleven hits in 15.2 innings. In his minor league career Wotell has pitched to a 2.73 ERA in 26.1 innings. The Kingsport Mets defense made three errors in the field that led to four unearned runs.

GCL Nationals 5 vs. GCL Mets (7-6) 2 BOX SCORE

The GCL Mets collected just three hits in the 5-2 loss.

Wagner Lagrange has cooled down in his last three games going just 1 for 12. His average dropped from .472 to a still impressive .375 mark.

After allowing just three earned runs in his first twelve innings with the GCL Mets, Hernandez allowed five in four to increase his ERA from 2.67 to 4.50. Hernandez has pitched for the DSL Mets1 and GCL Mets this season. Combined between those two teams he is 2-1 with a 3.77 ERA this season. Luis Carreno went three hitless innings and Joe Napolitano pitched the fourth scoreless inning of his pro career.

DSL Cubs1 7 vs. DSL Mets1 (14-16) 1 BOX SCORE

The DSL Mets1 collected just three hits in the 7-1 loss.

Hansel Moreno extended his hitting streak to eight games and is hitting .371 over his last ten games.

  • Ygnacio Rondon RHP: 4 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 6 K, L (3-1 2.54 ERA)

Rondon has pitched pretty well this season for the DSL Mets1. He has allowed just 24 hits and ten runs in 28.1 innings. Renlly Tejada went four innings in relief allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits.

DSL Mets2 (12-19) 8 vs. DSL Rays2 2 BOX SCORE

The DSL Mets2 won despite missing top prospect Andres Gimenez for the second straight game.

Rafael Valdez had his third multi-hit game in his last five and his second three hit day of the season. Yordin Araujo hit his first career home run and Shervyen Newton his first career triple in the win.

Campos has pitched four innings in all four of his pro career starts. He has not allowed more than three earned in all those starts. Angel Chalas got his first career win.

Binghamton Mets game was postponed because of the weather.
