MMN Recap 8/26: Rumble Ponies Clinch Playoff Spot

Reno Aces (76-57) 7 vs. Las Vegas 51s (52-81) 3 Box Score

The Las Vegas 51s collected just four hits and scored all their runs in the bottom of the ninth. Travis Snider has been hitting .361/.465/.500 since the Mets traded for him. John Mora went 0-5 in his AAA debut.

Former MLB pitcher Donovan Hand made his 17th start for the Las Vegas 51s. Hand has struggled in Vegas allowing 85 runs (76ER) in 90 total innings in Vegas, allowing 138 hits. Jamie Callahan has been outstanding since the Mets traded for him. He got his first perfect innings since joining the 51s, allowing just two runs in nine innings overall in Vegas.

Portland Sea Dogs (62-69) 9 vs. Binghamton Rumble Ponies (77-54) 5 Box Score

Peter Alonso collected his first AA double, RBI and run scored. He is hitting .400 over his first four games for the Rumble Ponies. Tomas Nido hit his eight home run of the season, a career-high for him. David Thompson hit his team leading 16th homerun of the year, which is tied for 15th in the Eastern League.

Matt Harvey made his fourth rehab outing this season, his second start for the Rumble Ponies. Harvey allowed five hits and made a costly error which cost him two earned runs. Casey Delgado got the loss. He pitched two scoreless before allowing three runners to reach in the eighth. Cory Burns struck out three but allowed three hits as he couldn’t stop the bleeding in the eighth.

With the Reading lost the Rumble Ponies clinched a play off spot and will face the Trenton Thunder in the  first round of the playoffs.

Palm Beach Cardinals (71-55) 5 vs. St. Lucie Mets (58-72) 2 Box Score

David Wright went 0 for 3 while playing the field five innings in the field. Our own Ernest Dove was at the game and saw David Wright make a splendid defensive play at third. You can read more about David Wright his rehab game here. Colby Woodmansee hit his first home run of the season with two outs in the ninth. Wuilmer Becerra is hitting .378 in his last ten games and is 6 for his last 11. Michael Paez collected his second straight multi hit game.

Scarlyn Reyes has been struggling since his demotion to the St. Lucie Mets. Hitters are batting .306 against him in St. Lucie pitching to a 1.66 WHIP.

Hickory Crawdads (63-69) 11 vs. Columbia Fireflies (66-64) 7

Box Score

Andres Gimenez hit his fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot in the ninth. Quinn Brodey went yard in his first at bat in Single-A after his promotion from Brooklyn. Brodey has a successful debut driving in four runs. J.J. Franco has hit .400 in his last ten games and has a .409 on base percentage in Columbia this year.

Gabriel Llanes has been struggling as he is 1-7 with a 7.00 ERA over his last ten outings. Joseph Zanghi has been outstanding allowing just one earned run over his last 16 innings (0.56 ERA).

Brooklyn Cyclones (16-47) 3 vs. Staten Island Yankees (40-23) 2 Box Score

Scott Manea walk-off sac fly snapped the Cyclones 14 game losing streak.

Nicolas Debora has been outstanding all season, but doesn’t have a win to show for.  Side-armer Steve Villines has been good since being drafted in June.

Kingsport Mets (28-33) 7 vs. Bristol Pirates (14-47) 6 Box Score

Gavin Garay hit his third home run of the season, his second in the last three games. Garay also scored the go-ahead run on a throwing error in the top of the ninth. Outfield prospect Yeffry De Aza has been a lot better this year in Kingsport sporting a .419 on base percentage.

Olivo sports a 3.29 ERA in the GCL and 2.57 in seven innings for St. Lucie. 33th round pick Mac Lozer has been solid out of the Kingsport bullpen after being drafted.

GCL Nationals (30-19) 5 vs. GCL Mets (17-32) 4 F/8 Box Score

Wilmer Reyes has been outstanding in his first seven games stateside. The GCL Mets had five player with multi hit games but, the rest of the line-up went a combined 1 for 12.

The Mets 12th round pick Hutchinson has thrown 5.2 innigs allowing 5 hits and 5 walks.

DSL Mets1 (44-27) 9 vs. DSL Yankees (29-42) 4 Box Score

Sebastian Espino hit his second homerun of the season and his career. Espino dis struck out for the 60th time in 64 games. Jose Peroza has hit .344 over his last ten games for the DSL Mets1

Jender de Jesus struck out a career high seven and has 37 strikeouts in 35 innings this year. The DSL Mets1 struck out 14 batters combined.

DSL Brewers (28-42) 2 vs. DSL Mets2 (49-21) 0 F/8 Box Score

The DSL Mets2 collected just three hits in a shutout loss.

The DSL Mets2 held the DSL Brewers scoreless for the first seven before Jefferson Escorcha allowed two unearned runs to score in the top of the eight. Escorcha has pitched to a 1.86 ERA in 29 innings pitched.

DSL Mets2 (50-21) 3 vs. DSL Brewers (28-43) 1 F/7 Box Score

Shervyen Newton keeps getting on base. The Dutch born has .404 on base percentage while having just a .265 batting average in his career.

Curacoa born Nelmerson Angela pitched hitless ball in relief to collect his second win. The lefty struck out a career high six. Miguel Pinedo collected his sixth save of the season.
