Las Vegas 51s (26-39) 13, Sacramento River Cats (24-39) 2 Box Score
- Matt Reynolds 3B: 1 for 3, 3 Runs, HR, RBI, 2 BB, .302/.385/.415
- Amed Rosario SS: 2 for 5, 2 Runs, HR, 2 RBI, .338/.379/.504
- Kevin Plawecki C: 3 for 5, 3 Runs, 2B, 2 HR, 5 RBI, .317/.348/.561
The ball was really flying in this Vegas last night. The 51s hit five home runs in their rout of Sacramento. Kevin Plawecki looked like Mike Piazza last night with his multi-homer game and his 5 RBI. Amed Rosario looked a lot like the hitter he was back in May hopefully showing his initial June struggles were behind him. He also stole his 12th base of the year in this game.
- RHP Wilfredo Boscan (3-3, 4.22 ERA): 7 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, BB, 4 K
- RHP Kevin McGowan (4-2, 4.04 ERA): 1 IP, H
- RHP Logan Taylor (1-1, 2.97 ERA): 1 IP, 2 K
Boscan did great on a hitters night. So did McGowan and Taylor for that matter. Taylor is making a real case for the MLB. The only concern are his 14 walks in 32 innings but he has only allowed three home runs in a notorious HR league.
Erie Seawolves (30-31) 3, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (34-24) 1 Box Score
- Luis Guillorme SS: 3 for 5, Run, 2B, .292/.347/.338
- Tomas Nido C: 1 for 4, K, .279/.324/.455
- Kevin Taylor LF: 1 for 3, BB, .311/.413/.407
Despite getting eleven hits, the Rumble Ponies only got one run. Tomas Nido showed he is human and struck out for the first time since May 22. He has now struck out an unacceptable 16 times.
- RHP Chris Flexen (1-1, 1.98 ERA): 6.2 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 5 K
- LHP Kelly Secrest (0-1, 4.80 ERA): 1.1 IP, 2 H, 3 K
Flexen was another tough luck loser on the night. His groundout-flyout ratio was 10:1 indicating that his two-seamer was working in this one. He has shown why the Mets added him to their 40-man roster even in a small sample size this year.
Jupiter Hammerheads (30-34) 3, St. Lucie Mets (30-33) 2 Box Score
- Jhoan Urena 3B: 2 for 4, Run, .314/.406/.445
- Peter Alonso 1B: 2 for 4, K, .162/.215/.270
- Patrick Mazeika C: 1 for 3, RBI, BB, K, .306/.393/.466
The offensive woes of the St. Lucie Mets continue. All this has coincided during a period where they are getting some really excellent pitching. Urena continues to hit, now has a .851 OPS on the season. Alonso has reached base twice in back-to-back games.
- RHP Nabil Crismatt (3-6, 2.81 ERA): 9 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 13 K
Talk about a tough luck loser. Over his last 5 starts, Crismatt has a 46:3 K-to-BB ratio in 36.2 innings.
Greenville Drive (39-25) 5, Columbia Fireflies (36-27) 4 Box Score
- Luis Carpio 2B: 1 for 2, Run, 2 BB, .255/.322/.307
- Jay Jabs RF: 2 for 4, Run, .216/.310/.324
- Tim Tebow LF: 1 for 3, 2B, 2 RBI, BB, K, .223/.313/.348
The Fireflies were initially down 4-0 before four in the top of the fifth to tie the game. Tebow had the big hit in that sequence, a two-run double. Outside that inning, they struggled to get many baserunners. Carpio has seemingly been the forgotten man with the great season of Michael Paez and the excitement surrounding Andres Gimenez. He has a .629 OPS thus far in his comeback from shoulder surgery.
DSL Mets2 (6-3) 10, DSL D-backs (3-6) 9 Box Score
- Jhoander Saez CF: 2 for 5, 2 R, RBI, BB
- Shervyen Newton 3B-SS: 3 for 6, 3 RBI, 2B, R
- Yoel Romero 3B: 2 for 3, 2 Runs, 2B, BB
The DSL Mets2 were initially trailing 9-2 in the bottom of the eight before scoring eight unanswered runs to complete the seemingly improbable comeback. They scored the walk-off run on an error by the second baseman.
- RHP Victor Isturiz (0-0, 12.27 ERA): 1.2 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, 2 BB
- RHP Joel Romero (0-1, 4.76 ERA): 3.1 IP, 3 H, ER, BB, 3 K
- RHP Boris Sanchez (0-0, 11.12 ERA): 2 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, 2 K
- LHP Jefferson Escorcha (1-0, 0.00 ERA): 2 IP, 2 BB, 2 K
Two pitchers struggled and two were very good. Romero and Escorcha really picked up the slack and Escorcha did a good job in the ninth to give his team a chance to win the game. Romero ate some very quality innings.
DSL Mets1 (5-4) 4, DSL Angels (4-5) 3 Box Score
- Wilfred Astudillo C: 2 for 4, 2 Runs, K
- Jose Peroza 3B: 1 for 3, BB, K
- Sebastian Espino SS: 1 for 1, 2B, RBI
Close game but the DSL Mets1 were able to squeak this game by one run in this one. They scored the go-ahead run with two outs in the top of the ninth inning.
- RHP Malky Mena (0-0, 3.00 ERA): 5 IP, 4 H, ER, BB, 7 K
- LHP Michael Martinez (0-0, 4.50 ERA): 2 IP, 3 H, ER, 2 BB
- RHP Jender De Jesus (2-0, 4.50 ERA): 2 IP, H, ER, 3 BB, K
Mena had a great start and continues to build up his innings. Martinez and De Jesus struggled but they both escaped with only allowing one run despite combining to allow nine baserunners in four innings.
