Syracuse (72-63) 8, Lehigh Valley (63-71) 3 Box Score

  • LF/CF Brandon Nimmo: 2-for-4, 2 R, HR(1), 2 RBI(6) | .250/.400/.425
  • 2B Jed Lowrie: 1-for-3, R | .185/.241/.296
  • PH/2B/SS Sam Haggerty: 2-for-2, R, 2B, 2 RBI(9) | .343/.410/.543

The Mets jumped all over the Phillies highest level top pitching prospect, Enyel De Los Santos, scoring seven runs against him in five plus innings pitched. Nimmo completed his final rehab game with the club with another multi-hit performance including his first home run since April 15th. Jed Lowrie was also on the field, playing five innings at second base, as he continues to progress towards playing a full game.

  • RHP Harol Gonzalez: 5.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 K, 0 BB, Win | 5-0, 2.80 ERA, 1.10 WHIP

For the eighth consecutive start, Gonzalez held the opposing side to three earned runs or less as he racked up his seventh win in a row. He continues to get the job done despite not missing many bats as he only registered seven swinging strikes in this one. With the victory, Syracuse pulls to within a half game of the first place Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the International League North Division with five games left to go.

Binghamton (64-71) 7, Portland (59-75) 2 Box Score

The Rumble Ponies scored six of their seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as they drew four walks (including two with the bases loaded), and hit three singles and a double to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 7-2 lead. Brodey continued his recent hot streak with his fourth multi-hit performance in the last eight games.

  • RHP Mickey Jannis: 9.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 10 K, 2 BB, Win | 6-5, 3.12 ERA, 1.30 WHIP

Jannis was magnificent once again registering his fifth straight quality start as well as his third double digit strikeout game in the last four starts.

Daytona (66-67) 3, St. Lucie (67-66) 2 Box Score

The St. Lucie Mets struggles continue as they lost their fourteenth consecutive game. Tiberi and Cortes accounted for half of the team’s hits on the night.

  • RHP Joe Cavallaro: 6.1 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 K, 3 BB | 6-5, 3.54 ERA, 1.32 WHIP
  • RHP Thomas McIlraith: 3.0 IP, 0 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 4 K, 2 BB, Loss | 4-5, 2.79 ERA, 1.22 WHIP

When things are going bad…you find new and unique ways to lose. On top of wasting Cavallaro’s first quality start of the season, McIlraith ended up getting the loss despite not allowing a base hit in his three innings of work. With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the tenth inning, McIlraith induced the ground-ball needed to turn an inning ending double play but a throwing error by first baseman Matt Winaker resulted in the tying and game winning runs to score.

Hickory (80-50) 7, Columbia (52-79) 0 Box Score

The Fireflies offense couldn’t muster much of anything against 2018 Rangers first round pick Cole Winn as he held them to only four hits on the night while striking out five across seven shutout innings.

  • RHP Daison Acosta: 5.2 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 K, 5 BB, Loss | 1-4, 3.42 ERA, 1.50 WHIP
  • LHP Jake Simon: 0.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 K, 0 BB | 0-0, 4.00 ERA, 1.39 WHIP

Despite not having his best control, Acosta was able to limit the damage against him to only three runs thanks to some good defensive play behind him. The game would be put out of reach though in the eighth inning as Simon struggled for his second consecutive appearance allowing a three run home run to Pedro Gonzalez. The left-hander has seen his ERA climb a full run from 3.00 to 4.00 just over his these last two appearances.

Brooklyn (40-30) 9, Aberdeen (39-31) 8 Box Score

  • SS Wilmer Reyes: 3-for-5, R | .329/.351/.448
  • DH Gavin Garay: 3-for-5, R, 2 RBI(11), K | .263/.304/.379
  • 1B Joe Genord: 1-for-5, R, 2B, 3 RBI(39), 2 K | .195/.265/.375

The Cyclones cranked out fifteen hits on the night and made the most of their opportunities going 8-for-16 with runners in scoring position to pull off a crucial win against the Ironbirds. Reyes continued his hot streak with his fourth straight multi-hit game to extend his hitting streak to seven games. With the victory and last night’s Hudson Valley loss, the Cyclones pull into a tie for both first place in the McNamara Division AND for the Wild Card.

  • RHP Michel Otanez: 5.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 K, 3 BB, Win | 2-1, 2.97 ERA, 1.42 WHIP
  • RHP Nelson Leon: 2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 K, 0 BB, Save(3) | 3-1, 2.89 ERA, 0.80 WHIP

While it isn’t his best looking stat line, Otanez was actually pretty good last night earning his second win of the season for Brooklyn. After retiring three of the first seven batters he faced via strikeout, Otanez was spotted an early 7-0 lead and began pitching to contact in the third inning which resulted in four base hits and three runs scoring. From there on, Otanez got back to his game-plan and retired six of the next eight batters without any issues.

Johnson City (35-33) 9, Kingsport (34-34) 7 Box Score

With both the division title and the wild card on the line and no Francisco Alvarez in the lineup, the other two catchers on the Kingsport roster stepped up and paced the Kingsport offense driving in six of the team’s seven runs. For Regnault, his two run homer gives him seventeen RBIs in the last ten games. He finishes the season tied for third place in the Appalachian League in the category.

  • RHP Junior Santos: 3.0 IP, 6 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 2 K, 2 BB | 0-5, 5.09 ERA, 1.75 WHIP

While the offense did it’s job, the same could not be said on the run prevention side of the game. Santos disappointing 2019 ends with his worst start of the season as he allowed seven runs to score in three plus innings of work including a grand slam. The loss knocks Kingsport out of both the Division and the Wild Card race as the Bristol Pirates also leapfrogged the Mets with their win last night.
