Syracuse (69-62) 11, Rochester (66-66) 3  Box Score

  • Brandon Nimmo CF: 3-for-4, 3 R, 2 2B, 2 RBI, BB, .250/.423/.350
  • Sam Haggerty LF: 2-for-4, R, HR, 2 RBI, BB, 2 K, SB, .318/.375/.500
  • Jason Krizan DH: 3-for-4, 3 R, HR, RBI, .333/.400/.556

Syracuse’s offense had a huge game Sunday and three of the team’s eleven hits left the yard. Nimmo was playing in his fourth rehab game with Syracuse and had the first two extra base hits of his rehab stint, He played the full nine innings in center field. Haggerty and Krizan are both hitting very well since their promotion from Binghamton. Haggerty has now stolen 22 bases out of 26 attempts this season.

Oswalt has pitched exceptionally well for Syracuse all season (his 2.88 ERA would lead the International league by over half a run if he qualified), but he has been even more superb recently. Over his last 10 starts, Oswalt has a 1.67 ERA with a 42:7 K:BB ratio over 54.0 innings. Zamora has a 1.74 ERA with a 12:2 K:BB ratio over his last ten appearances and figures to be a bullpen option once rosters expand in September.

Binghamton (63-68) 5, New Hampshire (60-72) 1  Box Score

The Rumble Ponies offense jumped ahead early in Sunday’s game, with a four run third inning highlighted by Mazeika’s three run home run, and never gave up the lead. Brodey continues to perform exceptionally well with Binghamton in recent weeks and now has a .272/.336/.464 line since the All-Star break. Gimenez has broken out of his slump over the past week and is 12-for-34 with just five strikeouts over his last nine games.

  • RHP Zach Lee (W, 4-1, 2.45 ERA) 7.1 IP, 4 H, ER, 8 K
  • RHP Joe Zanghi (3-3, 2.43 ERA) .1.2 IP, 2 H, BB, 3 K

Lee had his strongest start of the season, tossing a season high 7.1 innings and tying a season high with his eight strikeouts. He has not walked a batter in any of his last four starts and has a 21:0 K:BB ratio over that span.

Jupiter (53-75) 8, St. Lucie (67-63) 3  Box Score

The Mets did not have a terrible offensive game, but three runs on eight hits were not enough to hold off Jupiter’s late inning comeback. Lagrange has cooled off a bit over the last couple weeks, but he is still riding a low strikeout rate and high BABIP to success in his time with St. Lucie. Rodriguez’s monthly OPS has fluctuated pretty widely throughout the season, but his .478 OPS for the month of August is by far the worst of his season.

Wilson had another solid start for St. Lucie as his pitch count crossed the 80 mark for the first time since late June (he had dealt with an injury in July). Wilson has a very good 2.72 ERA over his last 10 starts, although his 21:20 K:BB ratio over 36.1 innings during that stretch is not great. After posting a 0.00 ERA in July, Renteria has struggled with a 6.97 ERA in August.

Rome (62-69) 4, Columbia (51-77) 3  Box Score

With just four total hits and an 0-for-5 performance with runners in scoring position, the Fireflies offense struggled to score many runs in Sunday’s game. Mauricio’s massive slump continued with his 0-for-4 game: He is now just 3-for-38 over his last ten games. Sharp’s 155 strikeouts are the most in the South Atlantic League.

  • RHP Christian James (L, 3-10, 4.68 ERA) 4.2 IP, 9 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, K
  • LHP Jake Simon (3-5, 3.31 ERA) 2.1 IP, H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K
  • RHP Jose Moreno (3-5, 2.54 ERA) 1.0 IP, H, BB, 3 K

James allowed eleven batters to reach base before being pulled from the game in the fifth inning, but limited the damage against him to just two runs. It has been a disappointing season for James, a pitcher who was coming off a season with a 1.90 ERA. Moreno has been very successful in his first season being used exclusively as a reliever and has a 0.77 ERA with 15 strikeouts over his last ten appearances.

Brooklyn (38-29) 12, Vermont (30-38) 3  Box Score

Brooklyn jumped out to an early 10-0 lead and never looked back in Sunday’s game. Every Cyclones batter had at least one hit in the game, with the lineup combining for a total of 15 hits. Reyes has answered a five game hitless stretch with what is now a four game hitting streak.

Cleveland had another strong outing with Brooklyn and has now gone eight starts without allowing more than three earned runs in an outing. Tripp has struggled this season in Kingsport and Columbia, but had a nice debut outing with Brooklyn on Sunday.

Kingsport (33-32) 3, Bluefield (30-34) 0  Box Score

The Mets had just four hits, all of which were singles, in this game. However, they were still able to push across three runs in the game, thanks in part to two batters hit by pitches with the bases loaded in the third inning. Palmer has flashed some promise this season, but has struggled with strikeouts. He has already passed the 100 strikeouts mark for the season while only playing in 59 games.

Ventura made his second start with Kingsport following an up-and-down stint with the GCL Mets and had his best outing of the season. While the three walks are a bit more than one would want in four innings, Ventura did not allow any hits during his outing.

GCL Mets (28-23) 8, GCL Astros (24-26) 2  Box Score

  • Kenedy Corona LF: 2-for-4, R, 2B, RBI, K, .317/.402/.497
  • Freddy Valdez RF: 0-for-2, 2 R, 2 BB, .000/.500/.000

After posting a .790 OPS in the DSL, Valdez walked twice in his stateside debut on Sunday. Corona has an eight game hitting streak and has had multiple hits in seven of those games. For the month of August, he has a .338/.392/.592 line.

  • RHP Robert Colina (4-4, 3.57 ERA) 4.0 IP, 3 H, BB, 5 K
  • RHP Zach Hammer (W, 2-1, 2.90 ERA) 3.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, BB, 4 K

Colina had one of his strongest starts of the season and is just 18 years old. He has a 35:13 K:BB ratio in 40.1 innings pitched.
