Syracuse (52-52) 8, Toledo (46-58) 4  Box Score

Syracuse had a big offensive performance which featured 11 hits, six of which went for extra bases. Altherr was just a triple short of the cycles and has homered in three of his last four games.

Oswalt had a solid outing, pitching five shutout innings, but had trouble missing bats as evidenced by the single strikeout. His control had been turned up a notch recently and he will finish July with just one walk over five starts. Flexen has a 6.00 ERA in 9 relief appearances with Syracuse, but has an impressive 9:1 K:BB ratio out of the bullpen, indicating that he may have had some poor luck.

Binghamton (54-48) 6, Bowie (56-47) 0  Box Score

Every player in the lineup recorded a hit as the Rumble Ponies’ offense put up six runs in Friday’s game. Gimenez smacked his fifth home run of the season, with his solo shot to lead off the sixth inning. July has been his best month of the season and he is now hitting .299/.329/.468 for the month.

Gonzalez needed just 88 pitches to cruise through seven shutout innings. Gonzalez has allowed one run or less in each of his last three starts and, after struggling with the long ball earlier this season, has not given up a home run since June 7. Hanhold has performed much better since his demotion to Double-A.

St. Lucie (57-47) 3, Bradenton (56-47) 2  Box Score

Offense was hard to come by for both of these teams in Friday’s game, but St. Lucie was able to push just enough runs across to take the victory. Lagrange has been crushing the ball in his brief stint in the FSL. He’s had multiple hits in three of his seven games and already has five extra base hits at the new level. Top position player prospect Carlos Cortes had been in a massive slump for St. Lucie and is hitting just .214/.295/.267 in the 36 games following the All-Star break.

It seems fair to say that McGeorge’s conversion from relief to starting has been very successful through two starts. He struck out a career high eight batters, only needed 66 pitches to get through five innings, and his lone blemish was a solo home run in the second inning. It will be interesting to see how quickly he will be promoted back to Binghamton to see how he fares against more advanced competition.

Hagerstown (45-59) 7, Columbia (39-62) 3  Box Score

The Fireflies had just seven hits in this game, and all but one were singles, so it was a challenge for the team to get much going on offense. Vientos has cooled off from his recent hot streak and is just 3-for-27 with 8 strikeouts over his last seven games. Medina has been killing the ball since his recent promotion to Columbia and his hitting .298/.377/.617 over that span.

  • RHP Daison Acosta (L, 1-2, 3.50 ERA) 3.2 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 3 ER, BB, 4 K
  • LHP Jake Simon (0-0, 4.08 ERA) 2.1 IP, H, 5 K
  • RHP Alec Kisena (1-2, 4.50 ERA) 3.0 IP, 2 H, ER, BB, 2 K

Acosta had his roughest start of the season, although two errors certainly did not help his cause. Overall, despite some growing pains upon promotion to Columbia, Acosta has greatly risen his prospect stock this season. Simon had his best outing of the season, which featured him striking out five of the eight batters he faced.

Brooklyn (23-16) 2, Vermont (16-25) 1  Box Score

  • Joe Genord 1B: 2-for-4, R, K, .237/.309/.432
  • Ariel Yera C: 2-for-4, 2 K, .220/.291/.220

The Cyclones struggled on offense in Friday’s game and were stuck in a 1-1 stalemate until the tenth inning. In that inning, a Jake Mangum fielder’s choice finally broke the tie and would bring home the winning run.

It was a fantastic game for Cyclones pitching as the three pitchers combined to limit their opponents to just two hits throughout the game. Bryant has been especially impressive in recent weeks and now has a 1.55 ERA in five July starts.

Pulaski (23-13) 6, Kingsport (16-20) 1  Box Score

  • Scott Ota RF: 1-for-4, R, 2B, K, .253/.351/.432
  • Brett Baty DH: 1-for-3, BB, 2 K, .143/.273/.286

Kingsport was limited to just a single run on five hits and one walk in this game. Baty has now struck out 22 times in 16 games with Kingsport, but also has nine walks. Ota is hitting .316 over his last ten games.

Errors killed Garcia in this game, but he has been very solid overall considering he is making a big jump from the DSL to Kingsport. MacDonald has 9 strikeouts in 6.1 innings pitched this season.

GCL Mets (15-11) 1, GCL Astros (12-15) 0  Box Score

The Mets had very little offense in Friday’s game as the team combined for just seven his, six of which were singles. The team’s lone run came when Shinn scored on a wild pitch in the second inning.

Suarez had a career best start in his sixth outing of the season. His ten strikeouts nearly double his previous career high of six and his five innings pitched tie a career high. Over his last four starts, he has given up just two earned runs in 17.2 innings pitched and has an extremely impressive 24:4 K:BB ratio.

DSL Phillies Red (30-12) 8, DSL Mets1 (22-20) 3  Box Score

  • Federico Polanco 3B: 1-for-3, 2B, BB, K, .331/.414/.472
  • Omar De Los Santos RF: 1-for-4, R, HR, RBI, .266/.352/.405

Polanco has been excellent in his second season in the DSL. The 18 year old has walked the same number of times as he has struck out and has displayed solid gap power with 18 of his 54 hits going for doubles or triples.

Olivero was making his first career start after pitching to a 1.76 ERA out of the bullpen early this season.

DSL Mets2 (22-25) 8, DSL Phillies White (27-20) 4  Box Score

  • Samuel Marte 3B: 1-for-2, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI, 3 BB, .221/.337/.350

The Mets offense had more walks than hits in this game (10 walks compared to 9 hits). Marte homered for the second straight game after not hitting a home run over the first 38 games of the DSL season.

Mets pitching struggled with control in this one as the three pitchers combined to walk eight batters while only striking out 5.
