Syracuse 7 (11-7), Buffalo 3 Box Score

Taijeron has seven home runs to start the year, so it looks like his power isn’t limited to the Pacific Coast League. Herrera stole his fourth base to start the season.

Taylor has been one of the most effective reliever out of the bullpen.

Binghamton Rumble Ponies 16 (8-4), Akron Rubberducks 3 Box Score

  • SS Andres Gimenez 2 for 6, 2B, 3 RBI, 2 R, 2 K .286/.327/.469
  • 3B Will Toffey 1 for 6, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R, 3 K .167/.388/.361
  • C Ali Sanchez 3 for 5, 2B, 3 RBI, R, BB, K .281/.303/.313

Gimenez has been on a tear after struggling in his first couple of games. Toffey still has one of the oddest slash-lines in the minor leagues. Sam Haggerty, Michael Paez, and Kevin Kaczmarski all had multiple-hit games as well, as the Rumble Ponies recorded 17 hits.

  • LHP Anthony Kay 6 IP, H, 3 BB, 10 K, W (1-1) 1.89 ERA
  • RHP Stephen Nogosek 2 IP 2 H, BB, K 1.35 ERA

Kay had his first truly stellar start of the year, striking out ten after striking out twelve over his first three starts.

St. Lucie Mets 9 (10-8), Lakeland Flying Tigers 2 Box Score

Keep an eye on Zanon, who is an interesting athlete who makes a lot of hard contact. Brodey has been on a tear to start the year, and it’s actually rather interesting that he’s playing center field. Carpio launched his 17th career homer. The team scored six runs in the second inning, and three more runs in the next two, and tallied 13 hits.

Dibrell kept the Flying Tigers hitless for the first four innings, and lost some gas once he got to the sixth. He has not skipped a beat after being excellent last season with Columbia.

West Virginia Power 5, Columbia Fireflies 0 (7-10) Box Score

This was Newton’s season debut, and he was not welcomed well, striking out in his first three plate appearances. Walter Rasquin, Zach Rheams, and Bradley Marquez were the only players who recorded a hit. Ten Fireflies struck out against Clay Chandler, who has been dominant in the South Atlantic League so far. Old friend Jarred Kelenic went 2-for-3 with a walk against Firefly pitching. Ronny Mauricio got the night off.

Jose Butto has been pretty hittable, giving up 17 hits, but has walked only two, and struck out 12 in 12 innings pitched. Hutchinson could possibly join the rotation soon. Putting the flamethrowing Moreno into the bullpen could possibly push him quicker through the majors.
