AAA: Worcester Red Sox (26-27) 8, Syracuse Mets (17-34) 7  Box Score

The Mets had a strong offense game and made the most of their scoring opportunities on Saturday, as they went 5-for-10 with runners in scoring position. Smith showed that the power that had been noticeably absent at the major league level for the last year still exists, as he crushed his first regular season home run since July of 2021. The 447-foot shot to right-center, which tied the game in the ninth inning, can be seen in the video below.

Lee is 15-for-43 with nine extra base hits since he returned for his brief demotion to St. Lucie.

Fisher was making his first Triple-A start of the season and struggled with his command. He needed 57 pitches to get through two innings of works, and just 32 of those pitches were strikes.

Montes de Oca started both the eighth and ninth innings with the game tied, but proceeded to allow the Red Sox to take the lead in both innings. The second of these occurrences was the walk-off RBI double that ended the game. As it was just his second appearance in Triple-A, some growing pains are, of course, expected for Montes de Oca.

AA: Binghamton Rumble Ponies (19-30) 3, Somerset Patriots (31-18) 2  Box Score

The Rumble Ponies did not have a ton of offense in Saturday’s 10-inning affair: they had just six hits for the night and went just 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position. Álvarez walked it off on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the tenth inning. He also extended his hitting streak to six games.

Baty has gone hitless in six of his last seven games, although he has walked six times in that span.

It has been a rough start to the 2022 season for Valverde, but he had his best start of the season on Saturday. His 5 2/3 innings pitched and nine strikeouts were both season highs, while the two runs were his least allowed outside of two scoreless four-inning starts earlier in the year. While he has struggled at run prevention this season (driven by a very high .398 BABIP and 1.85 HR/9), his 54:11 K:BB ratio in 39.0 innings pitched indicates that there may be more potential here than initially meets the eye. Parsons made his Double-A debut after a very strong run with Brooklyn.

Submariner Josh Hejka tossed two scoreless innings, lowering his Double-A ERA this season to 0.64.

A+: Brooklyn Cyclones (22-25) 8, Jersey Shore BlueClaws (18-30) 4  Box Score

The Cyclones scored eight runs in Saturday’s game, the majority coming during a six-run ninth inning comeback, but they had plenty of help from the BlueClaws in doing so. Four of the team’s eight runs were scored on errors or passed balls. During the ninth inning alone, the BlueClaws made two errors, had a batter reach on catcher’s interference, and allowed a run on a passed ball.

Coming off a red-hot .316/.409/.553 May, Suozzi had another big game on Saturday, with his bases clearing triple in the ninth being the deciding hit of the game.

Vasil struggled at the start of the game, as four runners had reached base (one on an error) and three runs had scored before he recorded a single out. He settled in nicely after that, however, and ended his outing with four scoreless innings. Over his first two starts with Brooklyn, Vasil has struck out 14 batters in just nine innings pitched, so, despite the high ERA, he has still been quite overpowering much of his limited time in High-A.

Lavender continued to be effectively wild in his High-A debut. He has given up just one run and has a 33:14 K:BB ratio over 20 2/3 innings pitched this season. Hartwig has an 11:2 K:BB ratio over 6 1/3 scoreless innings with Brooklyn.

A: Daytona Tortugas (19-29) vs. St. Lucie Mets (32-16)

The Mets’ game against the Tortugas was postponed due to rain. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Sunday, June 5.
