Third baseman Chase Estep was drafted in the ninth round of this July’s amateur draft, and it took him just four games to show off his impressive power. In the first inning of Saturday’s game, he blasted the first home run of his professional career, a 383-foot shot that left his bat at 107 MPH.

AAA: Buffalo Bisons (58-51) 8, Syracuse Mets (48-62) 1  Box Score

The Mets scored just one run on seven hits during Saturday’s game; their lone run scored on Deven Marrero‘s seventh-inning solo home run. Syracuse was particularly poor with runners in scoring position, as they went 0-for-7 in those situations. After showing significant signs of life earlier in the month, Álvarez is just 3-for-19 with no extra base hits over his last five games. After going hitless in his first Triple-A game, Baty has recorded at least one hit in each of his last four games.

Montgomery struggled again in his Saturday starting, throwing 67 laborious pitches before being removed after the third inning. In particular, he has struggled with walks this year: his 4.26 BB/9 is his highest in a full season in his career. Clay has struck out 12 batters in 9 2/3 innings pitched since joining the Mets organization. After showing improved control with Binghamton early in the season, Otanez has completely regressed to his previous wild profile since his promotion to Triple-A. He has a 24:19 K:BB ratio over 18 2/3 innings pitched since his promotion.

AA: Altoona Curve (52-55) 3, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (40-66) 2  Box Score

The Rumble Ponies had just eight hits in Saturday’s game, all of which were singles. Mauricio’s power has still been there in August, but his plate discipline has regressed in recent weeks: he is hitting .196/.196/.413 for the month and has not drawn a walk since July 29. Young finds himself in the exact opposite situation as Mauricio, as he is riding an outstanding eye to a great statistical August. Over the last 30 days, his .468 OBP ranks fifth in the Eastern League.

Gonzalez made his first Double-A start of the season after making four rehab appearances as part of his return from Tommy John surgery. He threw 61 pitches over four strong innings of work. Hunter began a rehab stint of his own after landing on the injured list with lower-back tightness a week ago. Hartwig gave up his first earned run since his promotion to Double-A and his first earned run in general since June 15.

A+: Wilmington Blue Rocks (55-51) 4, Brooklyn Cyclones (53-54) 2  Box Score

The top four hitters in Brooklyn’s line combined for six hits in this game, but they were still held to just two runs. Peroza got the Cyclones on the board with a solo home run in the second inning. After getting off to an awful start this season, Peroza has really begun to come around recently. He is hitting .306/.447/.500 with a 9:6 BB:K ratio in August. Ramirez drove in the Cyclones’ second run with his sixth inning single. He is hitting just .214/.267/.238 in August but does have a five-game hitting streak.

Scott was excellent in his Brooklyn debut, as he needed just 49 pitches to make it through four shutout innings. He has been on a roll since returning from the injured list at the end of July: since his return from the injured list, has tossed 10 scoreless innings. Lavender had his worst appearance as a professional, doubling the number of runs he had allowed all season in just one inning (he had given up four runs prior to this appearance and gave up four runs in the sixth inning on Saturday). Tavarez is striking out 13.35 batters per nine innings this season.

A: St. Lucie Mets (63-43) 8, Clearwater Threshers (49-57) 1  Box Score

Huge games by Estep and Beracierta led St. Lucie to a blowout victory on Saturday night. Estep got the scoring started by blasting the first home run of his professional career in the first inning. The ball left his bat at 107 MPH and travelled 383 feet. Beracierta fell a triple shy of the cycle during his three-hit game. After a hot July, Beracierta has not let up in August. He has four straight multi-hit games and is hitting .356/.383/.600 in August.

McLoughlin was very good in his first start of the season, giving up just one unearned run before being pulled with 49 pitches in the fourth inning. Walker utilized his four pitches (4-seamer, sinker, slider, and changeup) with an almost perfectly equal frequency during his fourth rehab appearance of the season. Most interestingly, he topped out at 95.6 MPH on his fastball, which is a couple of ticks harder than he used to throw prior to his injury. Gervase averaged a bit below 94 MPH on his two fastballs and topped out at 95.2 MPH. He has been extremely impressive the brief time since he was drafted. He has struck out 9 batters in and walked nobody since joining the Mets organization.

FCL: FCL Cardinals (21-25) 4, FCL Mets (28-20) 2  Box Score

  • Jacob Reimer 3B: 1-for-3, .333/.333/.333

Both Reimer and Nick Morabito made their professional debuts on Saturday after being drafted in the fourth and second compensation rounds, respectively, during the July MLB Draft.

Atencio had a strong performance in his second rehab start since landing on the injured list in early July. Ankeney made his professional debut after being drafted in the 20th round of the July MLB draft.

DSL: DSL NYY Bombers (25-27) 8, DSL Mets 1 (26-25) 6  Box Score

The Yankees made five errors in Saturday’s seven-inning game, allowing the Mets to score six runs on just seven hits. Juan is hitting just .206/.250/.294 so far in August.

DSL: DSL Marlins (26-23) 3, DSL Mets 2 (21-30) 0  Box Score

Fanas’ playing time has been limited due to a couple of injuries, but he still has just two extra base hits over 26 games this year.
