Syracuse (40-42) 10, Buffalo (42-39) 4  Box Score

On the strength of five home runs and ten total extra base hits, the Mets offense was able to put up an impressive ten total runs in Sunday’s game. Rivera broke out of a big slump with a massive three home run game. Over his last ten games, Rivera has just 8 hits, but five of those hits have left the ballpark. Guillorme is hitting .345/.429/.483 in June with more walks than strikeouts.

Lockett made his first start since his demotion to Triple-A and was good enough not to blow Syracuse’s big early lead. Avilan and Familia have both been excellent during their rehab assignments. Notably, Familia has thrown 22 out of 27 pitches for strikes over his first two rehab appearances after struggling with his control all season.

Altoona (42-37) 8, Binghamton (40-38) 5  Box Score

The Rumble Ponies offense had just six hits in the game, but still managed to score five runs. All of the runs came across on two big hits: Barnes’ two run home run in the first inning and Krizan’s bases clearing double in the eighth inning. Sanchez lost his hitting streak on Saturday, but would finish June with a .378/.417/.489 line for the month.

McGeorge, typically a reliever, was making the spot start for Binghamton and struggled quite a bit over 3.2 innings. While an error resulted in an extended fourth inning and five runs becoming unearned, McGeorge did end up giving up two home runs and nine total hits. Roseboom has had an overall dreadful season and was just demoted from Syracuse after giving up five runs in just one inning pitched.

Clearwater (46-33) 5, St. Lucie (40-39) 3  Box Score

The Mets didn’t have a ton going on offense in this game, especially when one considers that the bottom six of the lineup went a combined 3-for-20. Despite a missing about twenty games at the beginning of the season with an injury, Zanon’s 13 stolen bases still are tied for seventh in the Florida. Both of Tiberi’s home runs have come in June and his .275/.365/.418 line for June is his best of any month this season.

Dibrell had another strong start on Sunday afternoon as he pitched a shutout for six innings and needed just 78 pitches to get one out in the seventh inning. Overall, Dibrell’s 66:32 K:BB ratio in 79.2 innings this season is not great and there are reports that his stuff has regressed somewhat, but he has allowed more than two earned runs just twice this season and has not allowed a home run since April 11, his second start of the season. Zabaleta’s rough outing broke a stretch of eight straight appearances without allowing a run.

Hickory (50-27) 8, Columbia (29-48) 3  Box Score

The Fireflies offense didn’t have a ton of offense in this game and 15 total strikeouts didn’t help their cause. Vientos has been hitting much better recently after enduring a prolonged slumped: he is hitting .325 with just seven strikeouts over his last ten games. Senger capped off a huge month with another multi-hit game; he finished the month of June with a .345/.400/.618 line (.444/.500/.806 over his last ten games).

  • RHP Willy Taveras (L, 4-7, 5.60 ERA) 5.1 IP, 7 H, 6 ER, 3 BB, K
  • RHP Danny Hrbek (1-0, 2.25 ERA) 1.0 IP, H, ER, 2 BB, K
  • RHP Allan Winnans (0-1, 3.86 ERA) 1.0 IP, BB, K

Taveras had another dreadful start for Columbia, making tihs the third consecutive start in which he allowed six runs or more. His ERA has risen from 4.01 to 5.60 over that span.

Lowell (11-4) 6, Brooklyn (9-6) 4  Box Score

Haggerty was playing in his third rehab game with Brooklyn after missing the past month due to injury. Reyes entered this game with just eight career home runs spread across the previous three seasons, but was able to add a quarter of that total with two home runs in a single game.

All six of the runs allowed by Brooklyn pitching were unearned and scored during a six run seventh inning that featured two errors. Wilson was making his first rehab appearance following a setback that kept him from pitching for two weeks. This was Valentino’s professional debut after signing as an undrafted free agent.

Johnson City (7-4) 6, Kingsport (6-6) 2  Box Score

Kingsport’s offense couldn’t find much success in this game, with the team being limited to just single runs in the third and fifth innings. Palmer has had an impressive start to the season, but has struggled with strikeouts: he has 20 in just 11 games and has only had one game without a strikeout.

  • RHP Junior Santos (L, 0-2, 5.68 ERA) 2.2 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, BB, K
  • RHP Nate Peden (0-1, 6.57 ERA) 4.1 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 6 K

Santos has gotten off to a bit of a rocky start to his 2019 season, with him allowing multiple runs and striking out just a single batter in each start. However, at just 17 years old righty is 3.6 years younger than the average player in the league, so some growing pains are to be expected.

GCL Mets (3-2) 10, GCL Cardinals (1-4) 2  Box Score

  • Brett Baty 3B: 2-for-2, 2 R, 2B, RBI, 3 BB, .400/.550/.600
  • Jose Peroza 1B: 2-for-4, 2 R, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, BB, K, .250/.333/.813
  • Nick Conti 2B: 2-for-4, R, 2 RBI, BB, K, SB, ,308/.500/.615

The Mets offense had a huge day, with the team constantly producing baserunners due to 13 hits, 8 walks, and 5 Cardinal errors. The offense actually had opportunities to score more than their 10 runs, but they went a somewhat mediocre 6-for-23 with runners in scoring position. Baty has reached base multiple times in each of his first four professional games and may not spend much more time in the GCL if he keeps this up. All of Peroza’s hits this season have gone for extra bases.

Humphreys made his long awaited return from Tommy John surgery, throwing ten pitches in his one inning of work. It is great to see him back and hopefully he can regain the ability that led him to a 1.79 ERA across two levels in 2017. Parra, who was considered to be a high-upside arm from last year’s draft pitched two perfect innings in relief. Most notably, he did not walk a single batter, which is something he was unable to do in any of his appearances last season.
