MMN Recap: Josh Reddick Hits Game-Winning Homer for Syracuse

AAA: Syracuse Mets (31-54) 10, Worcester Red Sox (46-39) 8 (Game 1)

Box Score

A 3-run homer from recent pickup Josh Reddick helped lift the Syracuse Mets to a 10-8 win against Worcester in Game 1 of Friday’s doubleheader. Cheslor Cuthbert impressed as well with a 3-hit, 3-RBI performance. Cuthbert’s night was highlighted a 3-RBI double in the fifth that made up half of the Mets’ six runs in that inning.

Three other Mets also had multi-hit outings, including Wagner Lagrange who went 2-for-4 with an RBI in his second game in Triple-A.

Although starter Josh Walker had a tough outing allowing eight runs in his 3.2 innings on the mound, the Syracuse bullpen came in clutch to blank the Red Sox in the final three innings. Reliever Geoff Hartlieb earned the win on Friday as he allowed no hits in the sixth.

AAA: Syracuse Mets (32-54) 5, Worcester Red Sox (46-40) 4 (Game 2)

A 3-run homer from Chance Sisco in the fifth ultimately gave Syracuse its second win in Friday’s doubleheader by a score of 5-4. Mark Payton garnered an RBI of his own in the third with an RBI double.

Payton led the Mets in hitting in Game 2 as he went 2-for-4.

Reliever Bradley Roney earned the win in Game 2 of Friday night’s doubleheader as he put a stop to a Worcester 3-run fifth. Starter Zack Godley had a nice outing up until that fifth inning as he struck out six batters in four innings pitched.

Alex Sanabia took home the save after pitching the last two innings for Syracuse.

AA: Binghamton Rumble Ponies (38-48) 4, Hartford Yard Goats (29-58) 1

Box Score

Jake Mangum and Edgardo Fermin had two hits each in Binghamton’s 4-1 win over Hartford on Friday night. Brett Baty appeared on base twice with a walk and an RBI single in the first to put the Rumble Ponies on the board first.

Luis Carpio and Quinn Brodey each batted in a run as well in the third and in the fourth, respectfully.

Starter Cole Gordon had a stellar night on the mound as he struck out 10 batters in five innings on the way to his second win of the season. The righty allowed just one hit and two walks on the night.

After Gordon’s outing, the Binghamton bullpen didn’t disappoint as relievers Allan Winans and Colin Holderman allowed a combined one run on three hits in four innings on the mound. The duo also struck out five Yard Goats with Holderman earning the save.

A+: Wilmington Blue Rocks (37-51) 7, Brooklyn Cyclones (34-52) 4

Box Score

Despite putting up 10 hits, the Brooklyn offense was out-dueled by Wilmington with its 13 hits in a 7-4 loss. The Cyclones were led in hitting by Jaylen Palmer as he went 3-for-4 which included an RBI single in the eighth.

Top-prospect Francisco Álvarez picked up a pair of RBIs of his own with a sac fly in the fourth and an RBI single in the eighth. Highly-ranked prospect Ronny Mauricio also impressed at the plate as he went 2-for-5.

Despite holding the lead for most of the game, a rough performance from Bryce Montes de Oca helped the Blue Rocks mount a comeback in the 5-run Wilmington eighth. Alec Kisena had the most impressive performance for the Cyclones as he struck out six batters in 4.2 innings of work.

A: Dunedin Blue Jays (38-49) 2, St. Lucie Mets (47-38) 0

Box Score

There wasn’t much going for the St. Lucie offense on Friday night as the Mets were shutout in a 2-0 loss to Dunedin. St. Lucie garnered seven hits in the loss.

St. Lucie didn’t have many opportunities to score throughout the game as it went 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position. The Mets were led in batting by Jack-Thomas Wold as he went 3-for-4 at the plate in his third game in Single-A.

Although Oscar Rojas pitched six scoreless innings and 11 strikeouts for St. Lucie, he ran out of gas in the seventh as he was responsible for the Blue Jays’ two lone runs to earn his second loss of the season.

Reliever Drake Nightengale closed out the game striking out two and allowing one hit in his one inning on the mound.

Rookie: FCL Mets (16-14) 1, FCL Astros (17-12) 0

Box Score

A walk-off single by Justin Guerrera lifted the FCL Mets to a Friday afternoon victory over the FCL Astros. The Mets hit for a total of five hits.
