Syracuse (14-9) vs. Scranton/WB (10-10)

The Mets’ game against the RailRiders was postponed due to inclement weather. The game will be made up at a, yet to be scheduled, future date.

Binghamton (10-7) vs. Portland (5-12)

The Rumble Ponies’ game on Sunday against Portland was postponed due to rain. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on June 1.

Florida (8-16) 3, St. Lucie (13-11) 2  Box Score

The Mets offense found little success on offense during Sunday’s game as it recorded just four hits and scored only two runs. St. Lucie got on the board in the second inning when a Matt Winaker sacrifice fly brought home Carlos Cortes. Zanon brought home the second run with a groundball double in the seventh inning. Lowrie was making his first rehab appearance in his attempt to return from a knee injury suffered early in spring training. He played the first five innings at shortstop before shifting to second base. Carpio has gotten off to an excellent start to his season and he now has 11 hits in his last 25 at bats. He has also walked more than he has struck out so far without giving up the fly ball approach he picked up last season.

Wilson started the game for the Mets and had mixed results. While he did allow nine baserunners, Wilson pitched well with runners on base and got out of several jams with minimal damage. Wilson hasn’t found his groove yet this season, but he has only allowed more than three earned runs once so far. The ERA is not pretty for Renteria, but he has been getting a large number of strikeouts early in his first season as a reliever (13 in 9.2 innings). Campos continued his excellent start to the season with a scoreless ninth inning.

Charleston (11-13) 3, Columbia (8-15) 0  Box Score

The Fireflies offense was held to just three hits in Sunday’s shutout. Shervyen Newton has struggled in his first week back from injury as he has struck out 11 times in his first 20 plate appearances of the season. Despite a roster filled with top prospects, Columbia has had the worst offense in the South Atlantic League over the first month of the season, posting just a .565 team OPS. However, it remains too early to begin seriously worrying about individual or team performances, especially considering that many of the team’s position players are coming directly from Rookie-level Kingsport.

  • RHP Alec Kisena (L, 0-1, 2.45 ERA) 3.2 IP, 3 H, ER, 2 BB, K
  • RHP Allan Winans (0-0, 6.00 ERA) 1.0 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, BB, K
  • RHP Jose Butto (0-3, 6.16 ERA) 2.1 IP, H, K

Kisena was making his first start with an organization-affiliated minor league team since 2015 after pitching in the independent Pioneer League for the last two seasons. The 23 year old righty pitched into the fourth inning and threw 55 pitches in a solid first outing. Butto was making his first relief appearance, which is probably a role that suits his stuff better anyway. Despite the high ERA, Butto has a solid 18:2 K:BB ratio for the season.
