AAA: Buffalo Bisons (27-19) 9, Syracuse Mets 7 (12-35) 7  Box Score

The Mets’ offense scored seven runs, including one in each of the last four innings, on nine hits in Sunday’s 11-inning game. Nimmo made what is expected to be his last rehab appearance, playing nine innings in center field while reaching base three times. Drury, Tovar, and David Rodriguez all homered in the game, with Drury’s blast sending the game to extra innings. Khalil Lee was hitless with one walk in his six plate appearances.

Bostick struggled mightily in his start this Sunday as he pitched just four innings and gave up three home runs. Renteria, who has largely struggled following his promotion to Syracuse, walked in a run upon entering the game with the base loaded, but was otherwise flawless. Despite the high ERA, he has still struck out a very respectable 19 batters in 15 innings with Syracuse.

AA: Binghamton Rumble Ponies (15-31) 10, Reading Fightin Phils (18-30) 8  Box Score

  • Carlos Cortes RF: 1-for-5, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI, 2 K, .294/.359/.571
  • Mark Vientos LF: 1-for-4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI, BB, K, .261/.327/.577
  • Yoel Romero 3B: 1-for-4, R, HR, 3 RBI, BB, 2 K, .283/.354/.416

The bats started off cold for Binghamton, recording just a single hit over the first four innings, and would only muster six hits total for the game, but it helps when three of those hits are home runs with runners on base. Vientos, who was starting in left field for the first time in his career (perhaps to help make room for a Brett Baty promotion?), hit the game-winning home run in the 10th inning. His twelfth home run of the season, it tied his previous career high, a feat which was accomplished in just 37 games. He now ranks 3rd in the league in home runs. After getting off to a slow start this season, Vientos now has 9 home runs in his last 12 games and is hitting .297/.384/.781 for the month. Cortes has a similarly excellent June and is now hitting .333/.384/.667 for the month.

Rennie struggled mightily from the very beginning of this start as he gave up four runs in the first inning and four home runs total without making it through the fifth inning. The bullpen, on the other hand, performed admirably, keeping the team within striking distance of a comeback. Gilliam has had something of a disappointing season so far, but was excellent in the final three innings of Sunday’s game. He has improved in June, pitching to a 3.55 ERA and only walking 2 batters (albeit with just 7 strikeouts) in 12.2 innings pitched.

A+: Jersey Shore BlueClaws (20-27) 3, Brooklyn Cyclones (16-29) 0  Box Score

  • Ronny Mauricio SS: 0-for-3, 2 K, HBP, 2 SB, .229/.272/.424
  • Brett Baty 3B: 0-for-4, 4 K, .306/.409/.528
  • Francisco Alvarez C: 0-for-3, BB, PB, .277/.384/.590

It was an ugly day for the Cyclones’ offense and especially for the team’s trio of top prospects. The offense was shut out and a pair of singles of the bat of Cody Bohanek were their only hits. Much has been made of Mauricio’s struggles at home this season and this game only exacerbates that disparity. While he is hitting .330/.364/.670 on the road, Mauricio is hitting an abysmal .105/.160/.118 at home. All seven of his home runs have come on the road. Alvarez’s hitless afternoon snapped a seven-game hitting streak, but his walk extended his on-base streak to 12 games.

Lasko put together a quality start, but needed to be pretty much perfect in order to avoid a loss. His strikeout and walk numbers are quite impressive early this season, as he has a 50:8 K:BB ratio in 51.2 innings pitched. Ragan has an excellent ERA, but he has also allowed twice as many unearned runs (6) as earned runs (3) this season.

A: St. Lucie Mets (26-22) 5, Dunedin Blue Jays (20-27) 4  Box Score

The Mets did not have a ton of success offensively on Sunday, but a big day by Ramirez kept them in the game before, down one run heading into the ninth inning, a two-run error would win the game. Ramirez, just 18 years old, has been incredibly impressive in his first month in professional ball and hit his second home run of the season. He is hitting .323 with eight extra base hits over his last 15 games. Palmer has also improved after a slow start to the season and is now hitting .309/.424/.455 over 16 games since June 8.

This was Griffin’s second start in the Mets organization, and his first with St. Lucie, after being signed out of independent ball earlier in the month. In his first season pitching only out of the bullpen, Taveras has seen his numbers significantly improve. He has struck out 27 batters while walking just two over 20.1 innings pitched.
