AAA: Syracuse Mets (15-37) 4, Rochester Red Wings (22-31) 2  Box Score

Davis, now the last rehabbing major leaguer in Syracuse, made his third rehab appearance after returning from his most recent setback. He made doubled once in three plate appearances and played six innings at third base. Tovar and Drury both reached base three times in the game, with the former’s three-hit game extending his hitting streak to six games.

Worley was making his third appearance in the Mets organization after being signed out of independent ball and had his best outing thus far. He pitched to contact in order to go deep into the game, needing just 90 pitches to get through eight innings, despite scattering six base hits. Nogosek has struggled this season, but continues to rack up big strikeout numbers, with 35 through 25.2 innings pitched.

AA: Richmond Flying Squirrels (29-25) 12, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (18-34) 5  Box Score

  • Mark Vientos LF: 3-for-4, R, 2B, HR, 4 RBI, K, .283/.352/.597
  • Nick Meyer C: 2-for-3, 2 R, 2B, BB, K, .274/.351/.286
  • Quinn Brodey 1B: 1-for-4, R, 2B, 2 K, .239/.304/.310

Vientos did much of the heavy lifting for Binghamton’s lineup in Sunday’s game, as he had three of the team’s seven hits and drove in four of their five runs. He would finish a triple short of the cycle and his home run, the 13th of his season, would set a new career high for him with half of the season still to go. After a .324/.407/.775 June, Vientos is picking up where he left off in July. It is also interesting to note that this was Vientos’ second game in left field, with the first coming last Sunday.

Rennie’s disastrous season continued as he allowed seven runs without being able to escape the fourth inning. This was his second straight start allowing seven runs and his third in the last four starts. Mitchell allowed a rare (for him) run, but has otherwise been spectacular out of the bullpen this season and throughout his career. He has a 32:6 K:BB ratio this year and a 1.92 ERA for his minor league career.

A+: Aberdeen IronBirds (30-23) 7, Brooklyn Cyclones (18-34) 2  Box Score

It was poor afternoon for the Cyclones’ offense on Sunday, with the team combining for just two runs on four hits. Part of the difficulty can be attributed to facing rehabbing Orioles ace John Means, but he only pitched two innings. Ritter scored both runs and drove in one with his solo home run off of Means. At 24 years old, Ritter is old for the level, but he already has 10 home runs in just 45 games and has been quite hot since the middle of June. Ronny Mauricio remains out of the lineup due to injury, although he is expected back on Tuesday.

Kisena had a rough start in Sunday afternoon’s game and has now allowed five or more runs in three of his last four starts. While this rough stretch has resulted in an inflated ERA, Kisena has still continued to strike out a surprisingly high number of batters for a soft-tossing righty: 51 strikeouts in 38.0 innings for a 12.1 K/9. Otanez has had a disappointing season by the overall numbers, but does have a 2.25 ERA since May 21, albeit with more walks than innings pitched over that span.

A: Clearwater Threshers (29-25) 3, St. Lucie Mets (28-26) 2  Box Score

The Mets struggled to produce much on offense in Sunday’s game as they recorded just four hits and struck out 13 times. Palmer’s triple was his fourth of the season, which ties him for the lead in the Low-A Southeast league. Palmer’s power numbers have been surprisingly poor this season, as he is still searching for his first home run after hitting 7 in 62 games during 2019. However, he has compensated his lack of power with improved plate discipline skills: his 16.1% walk rate and 27.1% strikeout rate are both significant improvements from his in 2019 (11.2% and 39.1%, respectively). Ramirez’s hitless game snapped a six game hitting streak.

Griffin had a strong start, with his lone blemish coming on a first inning  solo home run, but could not get much support from his offense. Taveras has 30 strikeouts with just two walks in 22.0 innings pitched this season.
