Pawtucket (23-31) 7, Syracuse (28-27) 5  Box Score

The Mets scored five runs on the strength of three home runs in Sunday’s game. Kemp has been the designated hitter during his first three games with the Mets organization and reached base four times in this game. After having just a .736 OPS for the first month and a half of the season with Double-A Binghamton, Alcantara has been much better in 11 Triple-A games.

Flexen started this game for Syracuse and had mixed results, striking out eight batters in six innings while also allowing three home runs. Flexen’s season as a whole has been similarly mixed, as he has only allowed more than three earned runs in a start once and has a fantastic 66:14 K:BB ratio in 46.2 innings pitched, but has also allowed nine home runs and struggled at the major league level. Villines continues to get outs no matter the level, although his K:BB ratio has suffered has he’s climbed the minor league ladder, indicating that hitters are easily fooled by his deceptive delivery as they were at lower levels.

Portland (19-34) 6, Binghamton (30-21) 5  Box Score

In the first game of their scheduled doubleheader, the Rumble Ponies offense was able to push across five runs on seven hits. After being shut out for the first five innings and quickly falling behind 4-0, Binghamton’s offense rallied for five runs in the sixth with the help of RBI hits from Mazeika, Sanchez, Toffey, and Jason Krizan to briefly take the lead. Andres Gimenez would be hit by a pitch and removed from the game in the seventh inning.

Gonzalez started the game for Binghamton and, despite some command issues, largely continued what has been an extremely successful season thus far. His 7.9 K/9 is the highest it has been since his 2016 season with Brooklyn and he has still been excellent at limiting walks, with the three in this game representing a season high. Gilliam has faced his first bit of adversity in professional ball after being drafted last season. He has allowed multiple runs in three out of his first ten games with the Rumble Ponies, but has still managed to strike out 25 batters in 16.1 innings pitched. Shaw has impressed in his first season as a full-time reliever.

Binghamton (30-21) vs. Portland (19-34)

The second game of Binghamton’s doubleheader against the Sea Dogs was postponed due to inclement weather. This game was a makeup of the postponed June 1 game, which in turn was already a makeup of the postponed game on April 28, so the two teams will attempt to get this game in for a fourth time on a yet to be determined date.

St. Lucie (27-28) 6, Charlotte (29-27) 4  Box Score

Five players in the Mets lineup had multi-hit games in St. Lucie’s Sunday afternoon victory. Brodey got the team on the board with a big two-run home run in the first inning and the Mets never relinquished the lead. Brodey has been incredibly hot over the past ten games: he has a .474 average with seven extra base hits and a 6:7 BB:K ratio over that span.

After a brief stint in the St. Lucie bullpen, Rennie has followed with two solid starts, including this outing in which he allowed just five baserunners over five and a third innings pitched. Ramos pitched three solid innings in relief to preserve the lead, although he did allow two unearned runs.

Augusta (27-29) 5, Columbia (21-35) 2  Box Score

There wasn’t much offense to found for the Fireflies in Sunday’s game, as they were held to just four hits. Even when they had baserunners, they struggled to do anything on the bases, going 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position. Both of Columbia’s runs scored in the first inning, with the first scoring on throwing error during a dropped strikeout, and the second scoring on a wild pitch. Moreno has been outstanding at Columbia after a disastrous start to his season with St. Lucie. It will be interesting to see if he has found his swing and can keep this up if/when he gets a second chance at Advanced-A.

  • RHP Jose Butto (L, 1-7, 4.67 ERA) 6.0 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, BB, 4 K
  • RHP Alec Kisena (0-1, 4.79 ERA) 3.0 IP, 5 H, ER, 2 K

Butto didn’t perform poorly in this outing, as he needed just 72 pitches to get through six innings and only allowed three earned runs, but he was not good enough to make up for Columbia’s complete lack of offense. Despite the high ERA, Butto’s 48:13 K:BB ratio is very solid.
