AAA: Syracuse Mets (22-35) 5, Rochester Red Wings (26-29) 3  Box Score

The Mets scored a run in each of the first three innings of Sunday’s game but then were held without a run until Nick Meyer scored the go-ahead run in the 10th inning. Mauricio got the Mets on the board with a home run in the first inning. It was his first home run since May 13, although he has been a doubles machine since then and so has gotten his fair share of extra-base hits. Mauricio leads all second basemen in the International League in batting average and slugging percentage; he also leads the entire International League in hits and doubles.

He was later removed from the game after a collision at second base when trying to make a tag on a stolen base attempt. It’s been reported that Mauricio has a sprained ankle.

Peterson had his second-longest start of the season and worked efficiently despite allowing nine batters to reach bases, only needing 103 pitches to get two outs into the seventh inning. Hartwig has now gone four straight appearances without giving up a run.

AA: Altoona Curve (27-22) 6, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (23-27) 4  Box Score

The Rumble Ponies had plenty of opportunities to catch up to the Curve in Sunday’s game, but they went just 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position. Ritter had a huge game as he hit two home runs in a game for the second time in a week. Overall, he has six home runs in his last nine games.

Vasil continued his excellent season on Sunday, with a solo home run being the lone blemish against him in his five innings of work. He has a 54:6 K:BB ratio this season and has allowed three earned runs or less in all but one of his starts this season. His 0.72 WHIP is by far the lowest in the Eastern League. Brodey’s stint in Double-A has gotten off to a rough start: he gave up a solo home run in his first appearance and then gave up five runs in his second appearance with Binghamton.

A+: Brooklyn Cyclones (22-28) 10, Jersey Shore BlueClaws (27-23) 6  Box Score

  • Alex Ramirez CF: 3-for-4, R, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, BB, K, .260/.346/.385
  • William Lugo SS: 2-for-3, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI, BB, .179/.285/.283
  • Chase Estep 2B: 4-for-5, 2 R, RBI, 2 E, .224/.307/.368

The Cyclones had a huge game offensively on Sunday, scoring 10 runs on 13 hits. Their offense was led by Ramirez, who fell just a triple shy of the cycle and reached base four times. Lugo snapped his five-game hitless streak with his second-inning two-run home run. Estep set a new career high with four hits in one game. Estep has started to put a terrible April behind him: after posting a .274 OPS in April, he had an .820 OPS in May and has a 1.032 OPS so far in June.

The Cyclones’ pitching staff struggled with its control across the board in this game as they combined to walk ten batters. Tidwell was pulled from his start in the third inning after walking four batters and throwing 62 pitches. For the season, batters have hit just .195 against Tidwell, but he has also walked 7.53 batters per nine innings. Gervase has had similar struggles with walks as he has a 8.72 BB/9 for the season. More positively, both pitchers have posted huge strikeout numbers, with both having a K/9 over 12.

A: Fort Myers Mighty Mussels (28-23) 8, St. Lucie Mets (16-34) 3  Box Score

The Mets struggled on offense during Sunday’s game: they struck out a combined 13 times and went just 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position. Tilien is hitting .294/.429/.588 through five June games. Williams has not hit particularly well this season but he does get on base very consistently: his .405 OBP ranks sixth in the Florida State League.

Hernández was making his third rehab appearance in his recovery from a right shoulder strain that has kept him out for the first two months of the season. It was the first time he has pitched more than an inning. He averaged 91.6 MPH on his fastball, which is a 1.6 MPH drop from his velocity in 2022. Ramirez had the worst appearance of his career, giving up a career-high six earned runs and seeing his ERA balloon a full run from 2.95 to 3.95. Vasquez had a 37% whiff rate on all of his pitches.
