Syracuse (24-17) 7, Columbus (23-17) 2   Box Score

The Mets put up a four-spot in the bottom of the second, helped out by a Thompson double and a three-run homer by Colton Plaia. Thompson has struggled early on after an injury-plagued 2018, and has been seeing a lot of time at first base rather than just third base due to the crowded infield in Syracuse. Herrera has been on fire, with a 1.213 OPS over his last ten games and a hit in eight straight starts. Guillorme’s also been performing well in his minor league time, recording his second multi-hit game in the last three days.

Flexen pitched very well, completing his third consecutive quality start for Syracuse. He has struck out 45 batters in 30.1 innings in the minors this season. Hanhold pitched a sharp seventh inning, and didn’t walk anyone which has been a problem for him this year. O’Rourke pitched his sixth consecutive scoreless outing, while Peterson threw his fifth consecutive scoreless outing in a one-two-three ninth inning.

Binghamton (22-15) 3, Trenton (23-15) 1   Box Score

The Rumble Ponies didn’t have a lot of offense on Saturday, but they had enough to secure the win thanks to Mazeika, who hit a game-tying homer in the fourth and a tie-breaking double in the seventh. He has gone on a tear recently, with a .317 average and .780 slugging in his last ten games. Gimenez, after heating up for a few games, has cooled back down going 1 for his last 11. It’s been an inconsistent season so far for the 20-year-old, who is still trying to adjust to his first full season of Double-A.

  • RHP Mickey Jannis (W, 2-0, 0.00 ERA): 7.0 IP, 5 H, R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 5 K
  • RHP Ryley Gilliam (2-0, 1.80 ERA): 2.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB, 3 K

Jannis remains to be a bit of an enigma. The knuckleballer has now thrown 14 innings with no earned runs allowed this year for Binghamton, but he got absolutely shelled in a start for Syracuse in between. Gilliam continues to be fantastic, as he is rising quickly through the Mets system.

St. Lucie (21-19) 9, Fort Myers (25-16) 0   Box Score

It was an offensive outburst for the Mets, with eight of their nine starters recording at least one hit in a 9-0 rout of the Miracle. Cortes got on base four times, while Tiberi, Jeremy Vasquez, and Jacob Zanon all recorded multiple hits. Brodey, who has slumped in May after winning Player of the Month for April, hit a three-run homer to break the game open and put the Mets up 7-0.

Dibrell’s biggest weakness is his control, and that was evident in Saturday’s start when he walked five in four innings while throwing 83 pitches, only 43 of which were strikes. He did, however, limit the Miracle to only two hits, but he has to keep the walks down in the future to maintain success. O’Neil has pitched well recently, as he posted his third straight scoreless appearance in two strong innings to secure the win. Hernandez also pitched a much-needed two scoreless innings, while Taylor got three swinging strikeouts in a dominating ninth inning.

Rome (21-21) 9, Columbia (15-27) 5  Box Score

Down 5-1 in the fifth, the Fireflies received two-run homers from Mauricio and Vientos to tie the game at 5, providing some hope for the two top prospects who are both off to relatively slow starts for Columbia. Mauricio just hasn’t quite tapped into his power potential yet, but he showed a glimpse of what could be, hitting his first home run of the season, along with a double as two of his four hits. Vientos’s home run was his fourth of the season, as he continues to slowly heat up. Molina has also impressed early on, posting a .916 OPS through his first 13 professional games.

  • RHP Jose Butto (L, 0-5, 5.21 ERA): 5.0 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 2 BB, 5 K
  • RHP Bryce Hutchinson (1-1, 2.96 ERA): 3.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, ER, 0 BB, 2 K

Butto’s inconsistencies continued, and he is still yet to record a win through eight starts. Hutchinson has been very solid for Columbia, and pitched a decent three innings on Saturday, an outing that was plagued by a Hansel Moreno error in right field.
