Syracuse (68-61) 5, Rochester (65-65) 1 Box Score

Back to back doubles by Taijeron and Sanchez in the bottom of the eighth inning resulted in three runs scoring and put the game out reach. After a day off on Thursday, Nimmo was back in the starting lineup in center-field and played seven full innings in the field before being removed from the game.

  • RHP Harol Gonzalez: 7.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 K, 3 BB, Win | 4-0, 2.67 ERA, 1.12 WHIP

Gonzalez produced his second straight quality start and earned his fourth straight win in as many games. While he hasn’t missed many bats (8.4% Swinging Strike Rate), Gonzalez has still held opponents to a .197 AVG since being re-promoted to (AAA) posting a 2.55 ERA along the way.

New Hampshire (60-70) 1, Binghamton (61-68) 0 Box Score

The Rumble Ponies offense was held to only five hits on the night and were a paltry 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position. They had a chance to blow the game open with no outs and the bases loaded in the top of the tenth inning but Michael Paez hit into a 6-2-3 double play followed by a Jacob Zanon strikeout to end the threat.

  • RHP Mickey Jannis: 8.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 5 K, 1 BB | 5-5, 3.22 ERA, 1.35 WHIP
  • LHP Blake Taylor: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 K, 1 BB, Loss | 0-1, 1.96 ERA, 0.98 WHIP

Jannis was magnificent once again for the Ponies registering his fourth straight quality start while holding the Fisher Cats to only five hits on the day. Taylor was the tough luck loser as the only hit he allowed was in the bottom of the eleventh inning after the extra inning automatic runner was advanced to third base on a sac bunt. The loss was the Rumble Ponies tenth in the last eleven games.

Jupiter (63-65) 4, St. Lucie (67-59) 1 Box Score

Another game for the St. Lucie offense where they could only muster four hits on the night despite making a lot of contact and drawing multiple walks. As a team they were 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position with the only run scoring on an RBI ground-out by Lagrange in the eighth inning.

  • RHP Joe Cavallaro: 5.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 K, 0 BB, Loss | 6-5, 3.72 ERA, 1.31 WHIP

While he has not been able to pitch past the fifth inning yet, Cavallaro has held opposing teams to two earned runs or less in each of his seven starts since moving into the St. Lucie rotation in mid-July.

Columbia (51-75) 7, Rome (60-69) 5 Box Score

The Fireflies came-back from a 5-2 deficit with a five runs rally in the top of the ninth inning to steal a win away from the Braves. The rally was started by Chambers’ second double of the game followed by a walk by Shervyon Newton and a single by Guillermo Granadillo to load the bases with no outs. After a run scoring HBP by Walter Rasquin, Capra would tie the game with a two run single to left field and Conti would put the Fireflies ahead with a two run triple.

  • RHP Daison Acosta: 5.0 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 5 K, 2 BB | 1-3, 3.24 ERA, 1.44 WHIP
  • RHP Willy Taveras: 3.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 K, 0 BB, Win | 6-11, 5.19 ERA, 1.35 WHIP
  • RHP Allan Winans: 1.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 K, 0 BB, Save(10) | 1-3, 2.95 ERA, 1.13 WHIP

Acosta started off well tossing three clean inning to open the game but ran into trouble in the fourth inning allowing four hits, two walks, and a wild pitch resulting in four runs scoring. Taveras would be the beneficiary of the comeback earning his sixth win of the season.

Brooklyn (36-28) 4, Connecticut (31-34) 0 Box Score

Reyes broke a five game, 0-for-17 hit-less streak in the top of the first inning with a solo home run to to left field to give the Cyclones the early 1-0 lead. The team would add three more runs in the top of the third inning without a base hit of any kind thanks to three walks, a HBP, a sac fly, and a fielding error. Jeff McNeil moved his rehab assignment to Brooklyn and played all seven innings of the game. He made one put-out in right field before moving to third base in the bottom of the fifth inning where he registered two ground-ball assists.

  • RHP Michel Otanez: 4.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 K, 3 BB | 1-1, 2.49 ERA, 1.38 WHIP
  • RHP Mitch Ragan: 1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 K, 0 BB, Win | 2-2, 2.32 ERA, 0.81 WHIP

Otanez, Ragan, and Josh Hejka combined to shut out the Tigers holding them to only three base hits on the day.

Brooklyn (37-28) 5, Connecticut (31-35) 0 Box Score

This was a pitcher’s duel for most of the game with both sides being shut-out through the sixth inning. The Cyclones offense would break it open in the top of the seventh inning as they batted around the order resulting in five runs scoring on five hits, two walks, a wild pitch, and an HBP.

  • RHP Hunter Parsons: 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 6 K, 1 BB | 1-1, 3.68 ERA, 1.57 WHIP
  • RHP Jared Biddy: 3.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 K, 0 BB, Win | 3-0, 0.40 ERA, 0.85 WHIP

Just like their teammates in Game 1, Parsons, Biddy, and Dan Goggin also combined to shut down the Tigers offense holding them to only three hits as well. The victory was also Edgardo Alfonso’s 100th career win as the Cyclones manager.

Kingsport (31-32) 8, Greenville (30-32) 5 Box Score

The Kingsport offense jumped out to an early 6-0 lead scoring three runs in each of the first two innings of the game. Dirocie filled up the stat sheet with his third straight multi-hit game and fourth straight game with at least one RBI.

  • RHP Junior Santos: 4.1 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 K, 2 BB | 0-4, 4.06 ERA, 1.67 WHIP
  • RHP Nick MacDonald: 2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 4 K, 2 BB, Win | 2-0, 3.38 ERA, 1.23 WHIP

Santos struggled in his first inning of work, allowing two hits and walk to turn into a run, but settled in after that retiring ten of the next twelve batters he faced. He would be removed from the game in the fifth inning after allowing three straight hits and another run, but, the four plus innings he pitched was the deepest he had gone in a game this season.

DSL Yankees (33-30) 5, DSL Mets1 (33-30) 4 Box Score

It was a quiet day for the DSL Mets2 offense as they could only muster one run on five hits. They had chances to score more runs but the team was a collective 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

  • LHP Kevin Hernandez: 4.2 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 8 K, 1 BB, Loss | 3-1, 3.64 ERA, 1.49 WHIP
  • RHP Yeilyn Encarnacion: 3.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 7 K, 0 BB | 1-0, 0.00 ERA, 0.67 WHIP

After giving up two runs in his first two innings of work Hernandez settled in nicely racking up five strikeouts in the third and fourth innings. He ran into trouble in the fifth inning allowing three runs on four hits before Encarnacion came into the game to bail him out. The right hander, who only just signed with the club on August 12th, was very impressive in his third appearance for the team striking out seven of the ten batters he faced.

DSL Tigers1 (28-42) 7, DSL Mets2 (32-38) 1 Box Score

The DSL Mets2 offense struggled to capitalize on their scoring opportunities as the team was a collective 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

  • RHP David Marcano: 5.0 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 K, 1 BB, Loss | 1-2, 3.07 ERA, 1.32 WHIP

Marcano managed to only give up only three runs despite being knocked around for eight singles on the day and poor defensive play behind (three errors during his time on the mound.)
