Norfolk (47-70) 8, Syracuse (59-59) 6   Box Score

Despite the loss, the Mets got production from a multitude of contributors. Rene Rivera got two hits and drove in two from the DH spot, while Gregor Blanco homered to give the Mets a 4-3 lead in the second inning. Tejada has been very solid for Syracuse but has been slowly fading as of late.

  • RHP Chris Flexen (5-2, 4.41 ERA): 3.0 IP, 5 H, 4 R, BB, K
  • RHP Brooks Pounders (L, 2-3, 3.96 ERA): 1.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
  • RHP Matt Blackham (0-0, 1.08 ERA): 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, K
  • LHP Donnie Hart (0-0, 9.00 ERA): 1.0 IP, 2 H, R, BB, 0 K
  • RHP Tyler Bashlor (3-2, 4.20 ERA): 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K

Flexen has given up seven runs in his last two outings, struggling as he continues his attempt to reinvent himself as a reliever. Pounders has struggled to a 7.80 ERA with Syracuse after posting a 2.31 ERA for Triple-A Columbus.

Binghamton (59-57) 7, Hartford (58-57) 6   Box Score

Brodey has recorded three multi-hit games in a row, as he has finally started to get going in Binghamton after batting .285 with a .770 OPS for St. Lucie. He also gave the Rumble Ponies the winning RBI in the top of the 10th with a sacrifice fly.

  • RHP Tommy Wilson (4-4, 4.97 ERA): 4.2 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 2 BB, 7 K
  • LHP Blake Taylor (0-0, 2.40 ERA): 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
  • RHP Steve Villines (W, 1-1, 1.24 ERA): 2.0 IP, H, R, 0 BB, K
  • RHP Adonis Uceta (4-3, 1.63 ERA): 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K

Wilson’s string of recent dominance was halted by a so-so outing on Saturday, although he still did strike out seven. Taylor has quietly been dominant for Binghamton and St. Lucie this season. Villines’ has finally started to crack in Binghamton, although he has still been very good as he looks to work his way back to Syracuse.

St. Lucie (66-51) 6, Daytona (56-60) 1   Box Score

Moreno has struggled to transfer his success in Columbia this year to St. Lucie, although he has been better lately, as he hit a two-run homer to fuel a Mets victory. Cortes is off to a hot start in August, batting .333/.405/.727 through nine games.

Megill has struck out an impressive 76 batters in 56.2 innings this year, including 31 in his last 20.2 innings. Mitchell has been great although not quite as dominant since his promotion from Columbia, where he posted a 0.92 ERA.

Greenville (50-67) 2, Columbia (46-68) 0   Box Score

Mauricio finally cooled off a little after recording multiple hits in four out of five games, although he did draw a walk. Despite a modest 1-4, Vientos has been scorching hot in August, with a .387/.441/.677 batting line. Vientos, Chase Chambers, and Walter Rasquin collected the only hits for Columbia.

  • RHP Bryce Hutchinson (L, 4-7, 3.57 ERA): 5.0 IP, 4 H, R, 2 BB, 3 K
  • LHP Jake Simon (0-0, 4.01 ERA): 3.0 IP, H, R, 0 BB, 3 K
  • RHP Jose Moreno (3-4, 2.78 ERA): 1.0 IP, H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K

Hutchinson had his best start so far since moving out of the bullpen and joining the Fireflies rotation. Moreno has been very good this year, although the walk total is still too high with 21 in 32.1 innings pitched.

Connecticut (26-28) 5, Brooklyn (30-23) 2   Box Score

Taylor has been hot over his last three games, going 6-for-13 with four extra base hits. Mangum has been quietly picking up his offensive game as of late, getting a hit in the last 12 games he has started to raise his average from .221 to .260. Unfortunately, he has just one extra bae hit over that span.

Mullenbach has impressed over his first 14 professional games, allowing an .088 opponents batting average with 18 strikeouts in 18 innings.

Bristol (24-26) 19, Kingsport (24-27) 5   Box Score

Regnault continues to hit for average and power, although he has drawn just four walks in 30 games. Astudillo now has a six-game hitting streak, over a span in which he has gone 11-for-23 with two home runs, a double, and five RBI.

Four errors did not help the Mets’ cause as they got blasted for 19 runs. Dominguez had his worst outing of the season, and he has allowed 12 runs in his last three starts.

GCL Astros (18-20) 8, GCL Mets (21-17) 6   Box Score

  • Zach Ashford LF: 2-5, 2B, RBI, 2 K, .306/.404/.447
  • Ryan Shinn 1B: 2-3, 2 2B, 2 RBI, BB, .257/.397/.371

After struggling to a .453 OPS in 16 games with Brooklyn, Ashford has thrived so far through 25 games in the GCL. Shinn has walked in five straight games, adding to his impressive OBP.

Escalona had his first poor outing of the season, as he had allowed either zero or one run in all the outings previous.

DSL Mets2 (27-32) 4, DSL D-backs2 (37-23) 3   Box Score

Campos extended his hitting streak to six games. A passed ball, wild pitch, and a Samuel Marte steal of home were beneficial to the Mets2 in the win.

Rodriguez has allowed three earned runs in his last 11 innings.
