AAA: Syracuse Mets (14-26) vs. Buffalo Bisons (24-17)

The Mets’ game against the Bisons was postponed due to rain. The game will be made up on July 6.

AA: Akron RubberDucks (23-16) 9, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (12-26) 6  Box Score

Binghamton’s offense had a strong game, recording six runs on eight hits, and were in the middle of a bit of a comeback when the game was called due to rain in the eighth inning. Mauricio was the big bat in Sunday’s game, and his two-run home run in the first inning got the Mets on the board right away. His power has begun to show itself in May, as he is hitting .263/.288/.513 for the month. Álvarez has not had an extra base hit since May 13 and his last home run came on April 17.

Vargas dominated with Brooklyn over seven appearances but struggled in his first start with Binghamton. Home runs were a particular problem for him, as he allowed three over the course of his appearance. Otanez has a 17:4 K:BB ratio in 13.0 innings pitched.

A+ (Game One): Brooklyn Cyclones (16-19) 5, Hudson Valley Renegades (17-20) 4  Box Score

The Cyclones blasted three home runs on their way to victory in the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader. Peroza, who has struggled mightily early in 2022, had the team’s biggest offensive performance. After hitting 12 home runs a year ago, this was just the first of his season and just his third double, so hopefully this is a sign of him coming around. Palmer has also shown signs of heating up recently and, along with Newton (who hit his first Brooklyn home run in the first game), there was more power to come in game two.

Santos got off to a very rough start to the 2022 season, entering May with an 8.03 ERA, but he has been much better in the last month. Through four May starts, he has a 2.25 ERA and 14 strikeouts over 16.0 innings pitched. Hartwig got the save in his first appearance with Brooklyn.

A+ (Game Two): Brooklyn Cyclones (17-19) 3, Hudson Valley Renegades (17-21) 1  Box Score

  • Shervyen Newton SS: 1-for-3, R, HR, RBI, K, .200/.314/.500
  • Jaylen Palmer CF: 1-for-2, R, HR, 2 RBI, .174/.304/.314
  • Joe Suozzi: 1-for-2, 2B, .200/.327/.400

In game two of the doubleheader, Newton and Palmer once again power the Cyclones to victory. After hitting zero home runs in his first 24 games of the season, Palmer now has three home runs in his last five games. He is hitting .238/.347/.476 for the month of May. Despite striking out in more than a third of his plate appearances with Brooklyn, Newton, with his .814 OPS, has more than held his own after his promotion to Brooklyn.

Clenney had his best appearance of the season, as he needed just 61 pitches to make it through five innings of one-run ball. Both his five innings pitched and eight strikeouts are career highs. Parsons has thrown 16 2/3 scoreless innings to start the season.

A (Game One): Tampa Tarpons (16-21) 5, St. Lucie Mets (26-12) 0  Box Score

This game began on Saturday but was suspended in the top of the seventh due to a power issue in the stadium. The break didn’t help the Mets’ offense, which could manage just two singles over the course of nine innings.

Vilera through 71 pitches in Sunday’s start but couldn’t make it out of the third inning. He was better in his previous start (one run in three innings) but has generally struggled in his first three outings of the season. Walks continue to be Lavender’s sole flaw in what has been a phenomenal season. He has allowed just one earned run and has struck out 28 batters in 17 2/3 innings pitched.

A (Game Two): Tampa Tarpons (17-21) 6, St. Lucie Mets (26-13) 2  Box Score

With just two runs on eight hits, the Mets’ offense also struggled in Sunday’s second game. Ramirez at least had a more characteristic performance, collecting another three hits on the afternoon. Through eight games, it looks like Lee might be coming around a bit following his demotion to St. Lucie. He already has more extra base hits with St. Lucie (4) than he did in 22 games with Syracuse (3). Still, after an outstanding 2021 season, you would like to see him dominating such a low level before declaring his struggles behind him.

Vasil pitched just one inning on Sunday in order to give him some work on scheduled while also limiting his innings, but the much bigger news regarding him is that he was promoted to Brooklyn. Scott, who is likely to take Vasil’s spot in the rotation, flashed his strikeout stuff over three innings. Through 6 2/3 innings pitched this season, Scott has already struck out 12 batters.
