Syracuse (57-56) 11, Buffalo (58-55) 4  Box Score

  • Danny Espinosa SS: 3-for-5, 2 R, 2B, 2 RBI, K, .259/.345/.439
  • Ruben Tejada 3B: 3-for-4, 2 R, RBI, BB, .343/.421/.498
  • Rene Rivera DH: 2-for-5, 2 R, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, 2 K, .251/.308/.469

Syracuse’s offense explosion was sparked by home runs from Travis Taijeron, Rivera, and Rymer Liriano. Six of the team’s twelve hits went for extra bases. Rivera’s nineteen home runs in 2019 are almost double his previous career high of ten. Taijeron’s 24 home runs are tied for 7th in the International League. Dilson Herrera was out of the lineup for Sunday’s game, indicating the possibility of a major league call up, especially considering the injury to Robinson Cano.

Gonzalez made his second start of the season with Syracuse and his first since June 26. He pitched fairly well, preserving the Mets’ large lead, but, as a pitcher who has had struggles with home runs in the past now pitching with the new Triple-A balls, somewhat predictably allowed a couple of home runs. Blackham gave up his first run since he was promoted to Triple-A.

Akron (51-62) 5, Binghamton (57-54) 0  Box Score

Despite being limited to just three hits in the shutout, the Rumble Ponies actually had quite a few opportunities to score runs in Sunday’s game. Unfortunately, going 0-for-14 with runners in scoring position is not conducive to scoring runs.

  • RHP Tony Dibrell  (L, 0-4, 8.69 ERA) 5.0 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 6 K
  • RHP Yeizo Campos (0-0, 9.00 ERA) 2.0 IP, H, K
  • RHP Joe Zanghi (3-2, 2.02 ERA) 1.0 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, K

Dibrell had his best start since joining the Binghamton rotation, with his six strikeouts actually tying a season-high across his starts with both Binghamton and St. Lucie, while his three earned runs represent the least he has given up with Binghamton. Campos made his second appearance out of the Binghamton bullpen since his promotion to Double-A.

St. Lucie (61-50) 5, Daytona (55-55) 4  Box Score

With ten hits and eight walks in Sunday’s game, St. Lucie had plenty of opportunities to score and took advantage of several of those opportunities by pushing across five runs. Lagrange has been fantastic since his promotion to St. Lucie and, most impressively, has struck out just five times in 14 games at the level. Cortes has started to heat up a bit in recent games and now has a six game hitting streak.

Cavallaro’s return to the starting rotation had been going pretty well until this game, in which he threw less than half of his pitches for strikes and walked a career high five batters. Still, over his last 10 games, Cavallaro has a 3.21 ERA and has struck out 30 batters in 33.1 innings pitched. Mitchell has 56 strikeouts in 41.1 innings pitched this season.

Columbia (41-67) 3, Hagerstown (50-61) 2  Box Score

The Fireflies didn’t have much offense in this game, which was suspended on Saturday due to rain and continued on Sunday afternoon. However, the team made the most out of their four hits and took advantage of an error in the second inning.

James received the start in this game and, while he was successful at limiting runs, he struck out just a single batter for the second straight start. Over his last 10 starts, James has struck out just 27 batters in 51.2 innings, despite having a solid 3.48 ERA over that span. Lasko has a 14:2 K:BB ratio this season between Brooklyn and Columbia.

Columbia (42-67) 6, Hagerstown (50-62) 2  Box Score

  • Mark Vientos 3B: 3-for-3, 2B, 3B, 2 RBI, HBP, .264/.310/.428
  • Ronny Mauricio SS 2-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, .282/.321/.378
  • Guillermo Granadillo RF: 2-for-3, 2 R, .179/.258/.250

The Fireflies had ten hits in this game and took full advantage of their chances with runners in scoring position, going 5-for-7 in those situations. Vientos is hitting .301/.346/.524 in 38 games following the All-Star break. Mauricio is hitting .342 with only seven strikeouts over his last ten games.

Hutchinson was making his fourth start of the season and would cross the 70 pitch mark for the first time in his career. Overall, his number have been much better as a reliever (2.90 ERA) than as a starter (6.48 ERA), but it is still too early to declare that he is better suited in the bullpen. Winans has not struck out a batter in his last four appearances, but has only allowed one run over that span.

Williamsport (19-29) 4, Brooklyn (26-22) 3  Box Score

The Cyclones had ten hits in Sunday’s game, all but one of which were singles. Peroza snapped an 0-for-15 stretch with his two-hit game. Reyes is 14-for-37 with just four strikeouts over his last 10 games.

Valentino had his best outing of the season for Brooklyn, needing just 76 pitches to get through six innings and allowing just a single baserunner over that span. He has a 34:6 K:BB ratio this season and has walked more than one batter in just one start. Ragan had been almost perfect before this outing and still owns a 20:2 K:BB ratio for the season.

Burlington (25-20) 4, Kingsport (20-24) 2  Box Score

Alvarez extended his hitting streak to 15 games with his two hit performance. Baty’s overall line is being dragged down by a .225 BABIP that will hopefully improve as more balls begin to fall in for him. Palmer has interesting tools, but his 42% K% is unsustainably high.

  • RHP Cesar Loaiza (1-2, 3.97 ERA) 3.0 IP, 4 H, ER, 4 BB, 3 K
  • RHP Ramon Guzman (L, 1-2, 5.01 ERA) 1.1 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, K

Loaiza struggled with his command for the third straight start and has a poor 4:11 K:BB ratio over that stretch. Overall, Kingsport pitchers walked 10 batters in this game.

GCL Cardinals (15-19) 5, GCL Mets (18-14) 2  Box Score

The Mets offense was limited to just the two singles from Conti and Polanco in this game. Overall, the starting lineup has posted very poor numbers this season, with only two players having an OPS above .700. Nick Meyer started his rehab assignment on Sunday.

Allan made his second professional appearances and struggled a bit with control, walking three of the seven batters that he faced.
