Louisville (17-21) 2, Syracuse (21-16) 0 Box Score

The Syracuse Mets offense was completed dominated by the Cincinnati Reds #17 prospect Keury Melia as they were held to only three total hits on the night.

  • RHP Casey Coleman: 5.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 K, 0 BB, Loss | 0-3, 3.06 ERA, 1.33 WHIP
  • RHP Eric Hanhold: 2.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 K, 1 BB | 2-1, 3.71 ERA, 1.71 WHIP

Casey Coleman turned in another solid performance but continues to have a zero in the win column. Instead, he takes the loss for the third time this season despite not having allowed more than three earned runs in any start this season. At a minimum, he at least is showing to be potential spot start option for the big league club in the future.

Syracuse (22-16) 5, Louisville (17-22) 0 Box Score

  • 2B Danny Espinosa: 2-for-3, R, HR(6), RBI(25), SB(4) | .263/.333/.492
  • 3B Dilson Herrera: 2-for-3, 2 R, HR(5), RBI(13) | .247/.343/.494
  • LF Rymer Liriano: 1-for-3, RBI, SB(3), K | .183/.292/.267

The Syracuse bats would wake up for the second game of the day’s doubleheader as the team received solo shots from Dilson Herrera and Danny Espinosa in the fourth and fifth innings respectively. Tim Tebow would make an appearance as a pinch hitter for Ryan O’Rourke and drove in his 10th RBI of the season with a ground ball single through the right side of the infield.

  • LHP Ryan O’Rourke: 2.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 K, 1 BB | 0-1, 3.38 ERA, 1.29 WHIP
  • RHP Corey Taylor: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 K, 0 BB | 2-0, 1.72 ERA, 1.28 WHIP
  • LHP P.J. Conlon: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 K, 1 BB | 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 1.41 WHIP
  • RHP Paul Sewald: 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 K, 0 BB | 2-1, 2.50 ERA, 1.39 WHIP
  • RHP Stephen Villines: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 K, 1 BB | 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 0.80 WHIP

With no starting pitcher available for the second game of the doubleheader, Syracuse opted to go with a bullpen game led by Ryan O’Rourke. The group combined to shut out the Louisville offense while striking out eight on the night.

Altoona (19-19) 9, Binghamton (21-13) 8 Box Score

Patrick Mazeika is on absolute fire lately as he extended his hitting streak last night to fourteen straight games with his huge six RBI day. His solo home run in the bottom of the first inning was his third home run in the last four games. Mets top prospect Andres Gimenez also seems to be heating up right now registering his third straight multi-hit game yesterday.

  • RHP Harol Gonzalez:  6.0 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 K, 0 BB | 3-0, 3.48 ERA, 0.94 WHIP
  • RHP David Roseboom:  0.2 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 K, 2 BB, Loss | 1-1, 9.82 ERA, 2.73 WHIP
  • RHP Matt Blackham:  1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 K, 1 BB, Blown Save | 1-0, 2.57 ERA, 1.07 WHIP
  • RHP Stephen Nogosek:  1.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 K, 1 BB | 0-0, 1.06 ERA, 1.29 WHIP

Harol Gonzalez did not have his best stuff in this one as he struggled to keep the ball in yard. All four runs against him came via two solo home runs and a two run home run. He would leave the game in position to earn his fourth win of the year but the bullpen could not hold the 6-4 lead that was given to them. David Roseboom struggled with his command, throwing only eight of his twenty pitches for strikes, and Matt Blackham didn’t give him much help as he allowed both runners he inherited from Roseboom.

Florida (15-22) 6, St. Lucie (18-17) 5 Box Score

  • 3B Blake Tiberi: 2-for-4, RBI(13), BB, K | .287/.371/.357
  • SS Manny Rodriguez: 1-for-3, R, 2B, 2 RBI(7), SB(4), BB, 2 K | .278/.395/.361
  • RF Jacob Zanon: 2-for-4, R, RBI(6), K | .259/.338/.362

All of the St. Lucie runs came in the top of the fourth inning as the team unleashed a barrage of singles on Fire Frogs SP Nolan Kingham. Carlos Cortes, Jacob Zanon, Matt Winaker, Manny Rodriguez, and Blake Tiberi rallied together to get on base and score each other to give the Mets a 5-0 lead.

  • RHP Dedniel Nunez:  4.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 7 K, 4 BB | 3-1, 3.86 ERA, 0.89 WHIP
  • RHP Carlos Hernandez: 3.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 K, 1 BB | 0-2, 6.87 ERA, 1.58 WHIP
  • LHP Blake Taylor: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 K, 1 BB | 2-0, 2.76 ERA, 1.35 WHIP
  • RHP Connor O’Neil: 0.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 K, 0 BB, Loss | 1-1, 4.02 ERA, 1.47 WHIP

Nunez was solid through the first four innings of this game but he lost command of his pitches in the bottom of the fifth and was pulled from the game after three straight walks. Carlos Hernandez would enter the game to try and allowed two of the three runners he inherited to score on a line drive single before closing out the inning. He would toss two more ineffective innings allowing three more runs on five hits along the way to tie the game up at 5-5. O’Neil would take the loss in extra innings after allowing a line drive single which drove in the MiLB extra innings runner that was placed at second base to start the inning.

Florida (16-22) 5, St. Lucie (18-18) 4 Box Score

  • C Nick Meyer: 1-for-2, 2 R, 2B, SB(3) | .271/.329/.343
  • 3B/LF Blake Tiberi: 1-for-4, RBI(14) | .287/.371/.357
  • DH Luis Carpio: 1-for-2, R, BB | .325/.400/.410

In pretty unique fashion, the St. Lucie Mets scored all four of their runs without a base hit. Three of the runs came via RBI ground-outs by Blake Tiberi, Matt Winaker, and Cody Bohanek and the fourth one came on a steal of home by Nick Meyer as part of the double steal.

  • RHP Kyle Wilson:  4.0 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 K, 3 BB, Loss | 2-4, 4.60 ERA, 1.66 WHIP
  • RHP Joseph Shaw: 2.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 K, 2 BB | 0-0, 2.63 ERA, 1.32 WHIP

Control problems for both Wilson and Shaw in the fourth and fifth innings led to all five runs for the Fire Frogs. Between the two of them, they walked two batters and hit three additional batters in the two innings.

Columbia (14-25) 3, Augusta (19-19) 1 Box Score

After struggling in Advanced A-ball for the first six weeks of the season, Hansel Moreno was demoted to Columbia and took his frustrations out on the baseball hitting his first home run of the season. Every other hitter in the lineup, sans Brian Sharp, had one base hit a piece.

  • RHP Colin Holderman: 5.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 K, 2 BB, Win | 3-0, 1.76 ERA, 0.85 WHIP
  • RHP Darwin Ramos: 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 K, 1 BB | 0-0, 3.20 ERA, 1.22 WHIP
  • RHP Bryce Hutchinson: 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 K, 0 BB, Save(1) | 1-1, 2.96 ERA, 1.07 WHIP

Holderman kept the GreenJackets offense off-balance all game as he generated eight ground ball outs and three pop-outs on the night in his five innings of work.
