MMN Recap: Warren Saunders Leads St. Lucie Mets to Win

AAA: Worcester Red Sox (18-13) 9, Syracuse Mets (11-20) 4 Box Score

Almora joined Syracuse on Tuesday night and made his first rehab appearance since crashing into the Citi Field outfield wall on May 11. Almora, on the 10-day IL with a left shoulder contusion, went hitless and played five innings in center field in his first game action in nearly a month. Guillorme, also on rehab assignment as he works his way back from a right oblique strain, was 0-for-3 on the night and played seven innings at third base.

With Syracuse trailing 9-0 in the seventh, DH Cheslor Cuthbert hit a two-run home run that scored Mazeika. In the bottom of the eighth, 2B Orlando Calixte and Mazeika each hit run-scoring singles to make it a 9-4 game. Lee recorded a pair of walks, elevating his OBP to .529 with Syracuse this season.

Bostick gave up a run-scoring sacrifice fly and a solo home run in the second inning to spot Worcester a 2-0 lead. In the third, Bostick surrendered a two-out grand slam. Three batters later, a Bostick wild pitch allowed another Red Sox run to score. Schugel entered in relief and pitched two scoreless innings before encountering trouble in the sixth. The righty walked the leadoff batter and gave up two runs on three hits before exiting with two outs in the inning. Cobb served up a leadoff double and a two-run home run in the ninth, then retired three straight batters to end the frame. 

AA: Bowie Baysox (22-7) 8, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (9-21) 0 Box Score

Binghamton was shut out and recorded only three hits on Tuesday night as the club fell to 9-21 on the season. With one out in the bottom of the fourth, Brodey singled and Vientos walked, but Hayden Senger hit into a ground ball double play to end the scoring chance. Cortes doubled to lead off the ninth, but Bowie retired the following three Binghamton batters to end the game. 

Rennie, the Binghamton starter, allowed a one-out double and a single in the second inning to give Bowie the first run of the game. Two batters later, Bowie LF Robert Neustrom doubled off Rennie to drive in two more runs. Rennie pitched through the fifth, allowing a two-run home run in his final inning to give Bowie a 5-0 lead. Mitchell entered in the sixth, issued a one-out walk and gave up a RBI double. Mitchell also pitched a scoreless seventh inning.

Goggin started the eighth inning and retired the first two batters he faced. He then gave up three straight hits, allowing Bowie to plate two more runs in the eight. Goggin continued his outing in the ninth and gave up four runs before exiting with two outs. Hejka entered with one out to get, and he gave up a single to the first batter he faced, allowing an inherited runner to score. Hejka got Neustrom to fly out to end the game.

A-: St. Lucie Mets (18-13) 12, Palm Beach Cardinals (8-23) 6 Box Score

Trailing 2-1 in the third, St. Lucie plated six runs in the inning to take a commanding 7-2 lead. After Palm Beach chipped away at the lead to make it a one-run game in the sixth, St. Lucie scored in three straight innings to put the game away. 3B Jose Peroza singled home a run in the sixth. SS Brandon Fryman singled to drive in another St. Lucie run in the seventh. Saunders, who had four hits on the night, launched a solo home run to left field in the eighth, giving St. Lucie a 12-6 lead.

After pitching a scoreless first, Parra allowed two straight singles and walked a batter to load the bases in the second. He induced a pop out in foul territory, then gave up a run on a sacrifice fly. Parra then struck out the final Palm Beach batter of the second, escaping the inning with only one run allowed. Parra gave up another run on a sacrifice fly in the third inning, and a third run on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. Nightingale served up a home run to the Palm Beach leadoff batter in the sixth inning, and he then loaded the bases before exiting with one out. Montas entered in relief and allowed two inherited runners to score. Taveras pitched two scoreless innings to earn the six-out save.
