As we inch closer to the Mets pitchers and catchers reporting next month, the big group of us at MMO/MMN got our heads together to vote on the Mets 30 prospects heading into the 2020 season.

A group of 12 writers submitted their top 50 Mets prospects and from those sheets – with lots of discussion – came up with our top 30.

We are lucky enough at MMO/MMN to have writers that covered both the St. Lucie Mets and Brooklyn Cyclones on a daily basis in 2019. Also, had multiple writers that watched Binghamton and Syracuse games in person. In addition, we had writers that watched minor league spring training which helps put a face to names with some of the younger players in the system. That combined with MiLB.tv gives us lots of insight from actually seeing the players live.

Beyond watching as much as we can- we also talk to scouts, team personnel, and other talent evaluators to get their thoughts on players.

As far as the list goes, we don’t have a specific criteria that we look at for the placement of players. I would say we have a good mixture of writers in our group that evaluate players differently. For example, we had a really tough time with the order of prospects Matthew Allan, Brett Baty, and Mark Vientos. Age compared to level, ceiling/floor, and potential position were all factors in the discussion of these three.

Before we jump into the top 30 prospects on Friday, I’m going to mention a few names that didn’t make the list but were on personal top 30s:

OF Jake Mangum
RHP Harol Gonzalez
RHP Tylor Megill
RHP Walker Lockett
3B Will Toffey
RHP Ryder Ryan
C/1B Patrick Mazeika
LHP Franklin Parra
RHP Adonis Uceta
OF Blaine McIntosh
UT Endy Rodriguez

I want to thank Jack Ramsey, John Sheridan, Alex Worth, Jacob Resnick, Dilip Sridhar, Matt Mancuso, Ernest Dove, Daniel Muras, Christopher Soto, Steve Schaeffler, Sam Lebowitz, Joseph Hill, and Roberto Correa in their help to compile our list.

Look out for the start of our countdown on Friday!
