While being well regarded here, we have also seen Mets prospects well regarded elsewhere. Álvarez, Baty, Parada, Ramirez, Williams, and Mauricio have appeared on at least one top 100 prospect rankings with some of them being named by multiple outlets.
This group has seen Álvarez, Baty, Butto, and Montes de Oca all make their major league debuts during the 2022 season. The expectation is that we should see each of them in the majors at some point during the 2023 season. Additionally, Nuñez is a former Rule 5 pick who might’ve made the San Francisco Giants Opening Day roster in 2020 if not for his needing to undergo Tommy John surgery.
Baty, Parada, and Williams are the only Mets prospects in these rankings who were former first round picks. Tidwell, Vientos, Ziegler, and Morabito were second round picks. Allan and Hamel were third round picks. Montes de Oca, Orze, and Scott were all drafted in the later rounds.
That leaves 15 of the top 30 prospects being drafted by the organization. The remaining 15 were signed as free agents with Hartwig being the only undrafted free agent. Highlighted by Álvarez and Mauricio, there were 14 international signees in these rankings.
Álvarez and Parada were the only two catchers in the rankings. Viento is potentially the only 1B or DH in these rankings. Overall, there were seven infielders including the aforementioned players. There were five outfielders. The remaining 16 players were all pitchers.
Overall, this is the strongest the Mets farm system has looked in years. There are a number of players who appear ready to take the leap to the majors next season. There could be more to follow in the ensuing years. Of course, there will be prospects not ranked who can break through as well as players drafted and signed in the ensuing years who will make it onto these rankings later this year.
