According to ESPN New York‘s Adam Rubin, Mets GM Sandy Alderson has hinted that top pitching prospects Rafael Montero and Jacob deGrom may be ticketed for the bullpen sooner rather than later.

“I think we’re at the point where anything is possible,” Alderson tells ESPN.

Montero has a 4.31 ERA for Triple-A Las Vegas this season. He’s recently battled command issues (nine walks in his last 14 IP) which is very uncharacteristic of the 23-year old Dominican right-hander.

deGrom on the other hand has been excellent. The 25-year old righty has posted a 1.89 ERA through six starts for the same Las Vegas team.

When asked if his prized arms would begin their transition to relief while still in Vegas, Alderson stated that it’s a “first step, but not a necessary step”.
