Baseball America chose their All-Prospect Team for the month of August which included Las Vegas 51s outfielder Brandon Nimmo.
In the month of August, Nimmo hit .407/.474/.651 in 97 plate appearances for the 51s. He also had seven doubles, one triple, four home runs, 14 RBI and 21 runs scored. He did all this damage in a short period of time because he was on the major league roster until the 10th of August.
The great month has shot the young outfielder to the top of the Pacific Coast League leaderboard in average at .355 with only four games left in the season. He also leads the PCL with his .426 OBP while setting career highs in home runs (11), RBI (59) and doubles (25).
Nimmo is expected to rejoin the Mets after the 51s season ends on Monday.
Nimmo has had a breakout season. Hopefully it translates to a successful major league career.
Great to see Nimmo have a season like this. Knew it would take longer being his school had no baseball team. Really put himself on the map with the season he had. Love his attitude and always smiling when he was with the Mets. Pulling for him and hope he gets a shot with the Mets.
Gonna eat some crow here. Nimmo last August (2015) looked like crap and it continued thru mid may 2016. He turned it around with his bat to lead the PCL in batting average, pretty gosh darn impressive. Bravo.
What is even better is that his D has made some dramatic improvements. I can only surmise that once Roger Bernadina, who is an excellent center fielder, didn’t use his opt out mid June, Nimmo finally understood that Bernadina wasn’t the competition but the grizzled vet there to tutor him. Bravo.
Never seen a guy go from a grade F with the bat and Grade F on D go to a grade A with the bat and a grade C with the glove. Bravo.
