There was a flurry of roster moves on Friday in the Mets minor leagues and we will start with right-handers Tommy Wilson and Thomas McIlraith being promoted from Advanced-A St. Lucie to Double-A Binghamton according to our own Ernest Dove.
Ernest also noted that right-handed reliever Ezequiel Zabaleta is getting promoted from Class-A Columbia to St. Lucie. Right-hander Luc Rennie has been added to the St. Lucie roster from Brooklyn.
Wilson, 2018 19th round pick, has been fantastic this season posting a 2.01 ERA and 1.05 WHIP for St. Lucie. The 22-year-old has allowed only one earned run in his last 25 innings.
The 23-year-old Zabaleta has been impressive for the Fireflies with a 1.69 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and 22 strikeouts in 21.1 innings. He did pitch in three games for St. Lucie last season.
Binghamton right-handers Joe Zanghi, Stephen Nogosek, and Chris Mazza have all been promoted to Syracuse to help fill out a roster that has been recently plunked by the major league team.
Zanghi, 24, posted a 0.82 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and had 18 strikeouts in 21.1 innings for Binghamton. The former position player has held opponents to a .181 average this year but has walked 11 batters.
Nogosek is the last remnants of the Addison Reed trade still in the Mets organization. The 24-year-old has a sparkling 0.95 ERA in 19 innings this season though he has walked 12 batters in that span. He is holding opponents to a .203 average.
The Rumble Ponies also activated Barrett Barnes and Sam Haggerty off the 7-day injured list.
