New York Mets prospect Omar De Los Santos has been named the Florida State League MVP. The award was voted upon by Florida State League managers.
De Los Santos, 23, hit .272/.339/.459 with 23 2B, 5 3B, 16 HR, and 62 RBI. He also stole 70 bases in 85 attempts (82.4% success rate).
De Los Santos led the league in hits and stolen bases. He was second in the league in runs, third in batting average and homers, fourth in the league in doubles, triples, and OPS, and fifth in the league in RBI.
Defensively, he split his time evenly between all three outfield positions. He would post his best range factor in center field.
This was a breakout season for De Los Santos. In addition to winning the MVP award, he would lead all Mets minor leaguers in stolen bases.
De Los Santos is the third Mets prospect to win the award. Dustin Lawley (2013) and Dominic Smith (2015) were previous winners.
In addition to voting De Los Santos the league MVP, the coaches voted Mets’ prospects Alex Ramirez and William Lugo as All-Stars.
Ramirez, 19, played 67 games for St. Lucie. He hit .284/.360/.443 with 13 doubles, six triples, six homers, and 37 RBI. He had 17 stolen bases in 26 attempts.
Lugo, 20, played 84 games for St. Lucie. He hit .261/.347/.427 with 18 doubles, two triples, 10 homers, and 45 RBI.
Both Ramirez and Lugo would be promoted to and finish the season with High-A Brooklyn.
De Los Santos, Ramirez, and Lugo were part of a St. Lucie team which took first place in the first half of the Florida State League season. De Los Santos would be part of the team that was perfect in the playoffs to win the championship.
