The Scottsdale Scorpions won 8-6 on Tuesday over the Peoria Javelinas with Mets prospect Corey Oswalt getting his fourth Arizona Fall League win. The right-handed Oswalt pitched five innings allowing one run on three hits, two walks and three strikeouts.
Oswalt, 23, improved to 4-1 with a 3.33 ERA in seven AFL starts. Over 27 innings, he has given up ten runs on 25 hits, 11 walks and 21 strikeouts.
Mets right-handed relief prospect Corey Taylor followed Oswalt with two perfect innings in which he struck out four and got two ground ball outs. Taylor, 23, lowered his ERA to 1.93 in 14 innings. He has struck out 17 batters compared to just one walk.
Infield prospect Matt Oberste went 2 for 4 with three RBI and a double. Oberste, 25, is now 8 for 20 with five RBI and three doubles in his last five games.
Tim Tebow went 1 for 4 with a double, run scored and two strikeouts. He’s now hitting .190/.266/.241 with five walks and 17 strikeouts in 58 at-bats.
Am I crazy or is Tebow doing better?
Tebow is hitting .265/.342/.695 over last 10 games. Nobody goes from not playing for 10 years to matching up against top A and AA players and does that with 2 months of training- while taking weekends off for his other job.
I am a big fan, but you need to respect how hard he works and how determined he is. I can see him having a respectable second half in PSL once he gets a few hundred more at bats under his belt.
he is a great athlete- fast and country strong. It is intriguing.
Where he goes from there? Who knows but it wont be for a lack of effort.
A month or so ago I read an article that predicted Tebow would start at Binghamton. Seems aggressive but given his age maybe it makes sense to push him.
I think St. Lucie (they have terrible attendance). I definitely think they should push him. He’s 29 years old. You can’t have him spend a year in short season ball.
