After Drew Gagnon allowed four homers to the Braves creating a save situation for Edwin Diaz, the New York Mets have option Gagnon to Triple-A Syracuse. Replacing Gagnon on the roster and in the bullpen is Paul Sewald, who was selected from the Syracuse roster.

This will be Sewald’s second time on the Mets roster this season. During his previous stint, he made four appearances going 0-0 with a 3.86 ERA, 1.000 WHIP, 2.6 BB/9, and a 5.3 K/9 in 7.0 innings.

In 41 appearances for Syracuse, Sewald is 3-3 with a 3.35 ERA, 1.392 WHIP, 2.6 BB/9, and a 9.2 K/9. He has pitched particularly well in August not allowing a run in his four appearances.

With Sewald not being on the 40 man roster, the Mets designated Tim Peterson for assignment. This was the second time this season Peterson has been designated for assignment by the Mets.

Peterson made six appearances for the Mets this season going 0-0 with a 4.91 ERA, 1.909 WHIP, 8.6 BB/9, and a 3.7 K/9. With Syracuse, he made 35 appearances going 2-6 with a 3.09 ERA, 0.964 WHIP, 2.3 BB/9, and an 8.9 K/9.
