According to MMN‘s Jacob Resnick, Mets first base prospect Peter Alonso had to be removed from the game against the Pittsburgh Pirates Single-A affiliate Bradenton Marauders.

Alonso has been placed on the 7-day disabled list with what is being described as an arm injury. Catcher/first base Anthony Dimino has been promoted from the Columbia Fireflies to take his spot on the roster.

Alonso was last year’s second round draft pick, and he absolutely raked for the Brooklyn Cyclones hitting .321/.382/.587 with five home runs and 21 RBI in just 30 games.  Alonso’s season was cut short as he broke a finger diving into second base.  The Mets were impressed enough by that 30 game sample to have him skip Columbia and start the season in St. Lucie.

So far this season, Alonso is 4-21 with one home run, two RBI, and the aforementioned hit by pitch in six games. As of right now, it is unknown the seriousness of his condition.
