Pitching Prospects Kevin Smith, David Peterson Among Mets’ Spring Camp Invites

The New York Mets today announced that the club has invited the following players to major league spring training as non-roster invitees:

LHP David Peterson, Kevin Smith

RHP Matt Blackham, Ryley Gilliam, Francisco Rios, Pedro Payano, Stephen Nogosek, Adonis Uceta

C Austin Bossart, Patrick Mazeika, David Rodriguez

INF Jake Hager

OF Ryan Cordell, Tim Tebow, Johneshwy Fargas

The free agent signings of the group are Rios, Payano, Rodriguez, Hager, Cordell, and Fargas. They join previously announced minor league signings with big league camp invites in LHP Chasen Shreve, UT Max Moroff, and OF Jarrett Parker.

Peterson, Mets 2017 first round pick, is the top rated prospect of the group as the team’s No. 7 prospect according to MLB Pipeline.

Smith, 2018 seventh rounder, was the Mets 2019 Minor League Pitcher of the Year after posting a 3.15 ERA and 130 strikeouts in 117 innings. He also walked just 39 combined between Single-A St. Lucie and Double-A Binghamton.
