Plawecki 1

I ventured out on Friday night to catch the B-Mets and realized that there is little not to like about Kevin Plawecki. The catching prospect got the Toyota Fireworks show at NYSEG Stadium going a little early, when he rocketed a 91 mph fastball over the left field wall and into the stratosphere. His bomb was an eighth inning, game winning home run as Binghamton edged New Britain, 3-2, on their home turf.

A Plawecki double in the fourth inning drove home Matt Reynolds, who had singled to open the frame, and it tied the score at 1-1.  Binghamton inched ahead the following frame when Travis Taijeron doubled, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored when Kyle Johnson beat out an infield single.

Tyler Pill turned in his fourth consecutive quality start for the B-Mets, allowing a single run over six innings, scattering six hits, striking out five, without walking a batter.  With pinpoint control and a mix of pitches, Pill kept New Britain’s batters off-balance throughout his outing.  The B-Met right hander only went to a three-ball count, three times in 22 batters.

With no outs in the second inning, Pill worked out of a third and second jam, getting a ground out to third baseman Dustin Lawley, without advancing the runners then striking out the final two batters in the inning.  Consecutive singles by Reynaldo Rodriguez, Daniel Ortiz, and Tony Thomas plated New Britain’s only run against Pill in the visitors third.

New Britain tied the game in the top of the eighth, staging a two out rally.  Corey Wimberly singled to right field, stole second and knotted the score at 2-2, when Brad Boyer doubled.

Chasen Braford worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning to pick up his 9th save of the season for the B-Mets.  Bradford struck out the first two Rock Cats he faced then retired the final out of the game on a 6-3 infield ground out.
