The Mets have promoted their top right-handed pitching prospect Robert Gsellman to AAA. Coming off a career best eight inning effort against Altoona, Gsellman (3-4, 2.71 ERA) has shown the steady improvements that separates players in AA so often. He has shown an additional uptick on the radar this season, while decreasing his walk rate.

In a corresponding moves for the Vegas 51s, the team has released Stolmy Pimentel. The veteran has struggled in the desert air this season to a 10.45 ERA in 31 innings of work. He allowed 53 base hits and carried a 2.290 WHIP. The team also announced that the struggling Seth Lugo (3-3, 7.28) will be transitioned to the bullpen, for an indeterminate amount of time.

The organization also announced that Andrew Church will be bringing his 0.71 ERA to the St. Lucie Mets and start tomorrow night against Dunedin. In his two dominant starts in Columbia, Church struck out 15 in 12.2 innings of work, while allowing only nine base runners. There has been no corresponding move for the Fireflies yet, who currently have the efficient P.J. Conlon listed to pitch Friday and Saturday.

The organization got things started when they signed former MLB pitcher Josh Zeid out of Indy ball. Which was covered here at MMN by Corne Hogeveen. Before he was officially assigned to a league, the team then dealt Akeel Morris for Kelly Johnson. Which opened up a roster spot in the Binghamton bullpen for Zeid.

All this taking place on the eve of the amateur draft which will see a sudden influx of talent into the lower levels of the  organization. It is safe to say the roster maneuvering is just beginning. We will be here providing real time coverage throughout the draft.  If you are keeping tabs at home, there is still an open roster spot in Binghamton, hopefully for one Amed Rosario
