Adam Rubin reports on ESPN.com today that the Mets have invited outfield prospect Cory Vaughn to the major league camp for spring training.
Vaughn played with the B-Mets in 2013 and batted .267/.346/.424, with nine doubles, a triple, 10 home tuns, 50 RBI, and 24 walks in 295 plate appearances.
He was not added to the Mets 40-man roster and left unprotected, but survived the Rule 5 draft. Now he gets a chance to prove that he belongs, and with the work ethic that he has put in, that should be an easy task.
In a recent interview with me, he shares his thoughts on his preparation:
“My goals have always been to get to the big leagues, and be an everyday player. Regardless of what happens, I am going to have no regrets, go in and put my work in, play the game hard, and have fun. I’m a good teammate and the goals are to just try and get better every single day.”
This is a great attitude to have especially now with the opportunity to showcase his skills for the big club and the fans. Good luck to Vaughn and rooting for a successful spring.
