BrooklynCyclones.com caught up with prospect Jared King and the outfielder shared the experience of playing in his first pro season with Brooklyn in 2013.

The Mets signed King in the 5th round of the 2013 Amateur Draft from Kansas State University and then sent him to Brooklyn and in 63 games he batted .266/.365/.347, with 15 doubles, one home run, 21 RBI, five stolen bases, 35 walks in 264 plate appearances.

Without further ado, enjoy their conversation:

BrooklynCyclones.com:  How is your off-season going?  What have you been up to?

Jared King:  It’s been a great off season so far.  I was pretty tired at the end of the Cyclones season because I through through a full season at Kansas State, then we were lucky enough to move on to play in the post-season, so I was pretty much going at it for nine months straight without a break.  So at the beginning of the fall,  I just kind of took some time to recharge the battery and hang out with family and friends.  But then I got right back after it.  I’m currently at Kansas State working out with some of my old coaches and teammates getting ready for Spring Training.

BC.com:  When will you be heading down to Port St. Lucie?

JK:  I’ll be heading down in the middle of February, not too much after the Super Bowl.  I’m really excited to get back after it, and get down in that Florida sun.

BC.com:  You went to the Instructional League after the Cyclones season, what were some of the things you worked on there?

JK:  Instructs was a great experience.  I got to work with alot of new coaches, so it’s always good to get some new input on ways you can improve.  I mostly worked on my hitting mechanics, that’s something I’m constantly tinkering with.  It was also great to get to meet a bunch of new guys from around the organization.  There is alot of talent from top to bottom in the Mets organization.

BC.com:  What was it like going from The Little Apple (Manhattan, Kansas) to The Big Apple?

JK:  I loved the big city culture of New York.  There were so many things to do, places to see, and great restaurants to eat.  That was probably my favorite part.  The delicious food.  I also loved the amazing fan support we got in Brooklyn, they really love their baseball.

BC.com:  What is your best memory from your first season as a pro?

JK:  My best memory was the excitement that the team and the fans had going into that last series against Aberdeen when we were in the middle of the playoff chase.  There was really a playoff atmosphere and intensity.  That’s when baseball was at its finest.  Obviously the games didn’t go the way we would have wanted, but it just made me that much hungrier to get back to that level, get back in the playoff chase, but this time come out victiorious.  That’s what drove me all off season, the desire to win and improve.
