Before we started unveiling MMN’s Top 80 Mets Prospect we looked at around 100 players or so that we thought deserved consideration for the list. If you missed any of the top 80 you can see it all here. These are players that we felt were right outside of the top 80:

  • Corey Taylor – Mets 7th round pick in 2015 made a strong impression in his debut with a 1.00 WHIP in 18 innings for the Brooklyn Cyclones. The right-hander relies on a heavy sinker in the 92-94 MPH range to get weak contact early in the count.
  • Patrick Biondi – The left-handed hitting outfielder led the Mets farm system in 2015 with 38 stolen bases. He was drafted by the Mets in the 9th round of the 2013 draft and played for the Savannah Sand Gnats last season.
  • Kelly Secrest – He was one of only two pitchers in the Mets farm system last year to pitch at least 50 innings and not allow a homerun. In fact, he has yet to allow a homerun in 82 pro innings so far. The lefty was taken by the Mets in 10th round of the 2014 draft.
  • Jimmy Duff – The tall right-hander from Garden City, New York has a career 1.05 WHIP in 94.1 innings. The 2014 20th round pick saved 13 games last season between St. Lucie and Savannah.
  • Maikis De La Cruz – One of the best defensive outfielders in the Mets minor leagues has failed to impress with the bat. The 25-year old repeated St. Lucie last season but played only 86 games because of injury.
  • Xorge Carrillo – To say he loves the game of baseball would be a vast understatement, after catching 94 games during the regular season for Binghamton he played another 52 in the Mexican Winter League and was a part of the WBC qualifying Team Mexico just last week. Set a career high with 10 homeruns in 2015 while throwing out 33% of baserunners.
  • Kyle Regnault – Lefty signed out of Indy ball had a great pro debut for the St. Lucie Mets, pitching to a 1.99 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in 58.2 innings.
  • Matt Blackham – The right-hander showed off a good fastball in the 93/94 MPH range for the Brooklyn Cylclones last year before having his season cut short because of injury. The 29th round pick of 2014 has struck out 67 batters in 49.2 career innings.
  • Witt Haggard – The right-hander held opponents to a .174 average in his first 12.1 pro innings with the Kingsport Mets last season. The former quarterback throws a fastball in the low-90’s with a sharp biting curveball. The Mets took him with their 10th round pick in 2015.
  • Kevin Canelon – The 22-year old lefty struck out 70 batters compared to just 15 walks in 77 innings for the Brooklyn Cyclones last year. Has posted a 1.10 WHIP in four minor league seasons for the Mets.

The final player that missed our top 80 has had a great spring for the Mets putting him on many fans radars who previously knew very little about him. Travis Taijeron is a power hitting outfielder (led Mets minors with 25 HR’s in 2015) that will being the season at 27 years old.

Travis is a three true outcome hitter that walked 65 times and struck out 147 for the Las Vegas 51’s during the 2015 season. The Mets 18th round pick from 2011 has a career .882 OPS in 516 minor league games.
