Last Thursday, Rafael Montero was suppose to pitch in the Parallel League for the Leones del Escogido but had it rained out and moved to the next day. That game was rained out as well, he did throw a bullpen session on Friday though. Then last night he made his Dominican League season debut pitching one inning facing four hitters, he allowed a solo homerun, got a groundout to second base, then struck out the next two hitters.
This was his first live action since pitching in the Instructional League this fall in which he struck out all four batters he faced in one outing. The last game time he pitched for the Mets was a start against the Marlins on April 28th when he gave up three runs in 5.2 innings and struck out six.
Last night was also the end of the regular season in the Dominican League with a 18-game round robin playoffs to start on December 26th. The Aguilas Cibaenas will not be in the playoffs meaning Juan Lagares winter ball season is over. He finishes hitting .276/.333/.293 with five RBI, seven runs, two stolen bases in 16 games.
Lagares played all 16 games in center field and had three outfield assists including two in his last game which you can read about here. He had an eight-game hitting streak that was snapped in his last game, he was 13 for 31 during that span. As was the case during the regular season he hit lefties well (7 for 13, no strikeouts) and struggled against right-handed pitching (9 for 45, 11 strikeouts).
Mets prospect Jhoan Urena was put on the active roster last night for the Gigantes del Cibao to make his winter league debut, he had been playing in the Parallel League. He was 1 for 4 with a double while playing third base and hitting third, he shifted to first base later in the game.
One of the Mets recent minor league signings Andrew Barbosa made his Puerto Rican Winter League debut on Friday pitching three scoreless, hitless innings while allowing three walks and struck out one batter.
Wuilmer Becerra didn’t play last night but here is video of him throwing out a runner trying to go first to third on base hit a few days ago. Becerra is currently .375/.380/.458 with nine RBI and seven runs scored in 15 games for the Tigres de Aragua in Venezuelan League.

That was some throw by Becerra…really excited about this kid’s future the more I read about him
Perfect fit for right field, keeps hitting and he could be their for the Mets a long time.
