Rafael Montero made his third Dominican Winter League appearance last night for the Leones del Escogido in their 6-0 loss. He pitched a scoreless 7th inning getting a groundout to second, fly out to center field, and a caught stealing after the runner got on via a walk. He has now pitched three innings allowing one run (solo homerun), one hit, and struck out two batters.
The Tigres de Aragua won last night in extra innings tying their best-of-7 series at two games a piece. For some reason Wuilmer Becerra did not play, he is hitting .417 in the playoffs after hitting .405 during the Venezuelan Winter League regular season.
Asdrubal Cabrera was at shortstop for the Leones del Caracas for the second straight night in their extra inning loss, they now trail the best-of-7 playoff series three games to one. He went 2 for 4 with a walk, stolen base, and got picked off at second base. Cabrera is now 4 for 9 when playing the field after struggling when he was the designated hitter.
The Puerto Rican League had an off night and the only team with a Met player in the Mexican League is the Aguilas de Mexicali (Xorge Carrillo) who swept their first playoff series.
Here you can read the recap from Wednesday including the gem thrown my new Met Andrew Barbosa.
I was checking ages of the players with Wuilmer and he is 3 to 10 years younger then his typical team mates. I would assume experience plays a part in who hits where in the line up. Wuilmers just a kid compared to some of them. This got to be impressed with the kid.
Yes age definitely plays a factor. Most kids his age ride the bench in favor of veterans, like he did until he started hitting lights out.
