We all remember the August 11, cryptic Juan Soto Instagram post, peering out into the Apple with a few hashtags hinting he has New York on the mind. Well, Juan is still employed by the rival Nationals, but Yancen Pujols reports that Juan’s younger brother Elián intends to sign with the Mets during the next International Free Agency period.

There’s little to no info on the younger Soto, but there’s a few videos showing an all too familiar swing from the left side of the dish. Soto joins another Mets international free agent signing, 16-year old outfielder Simon Juan for the upcoming class. While Juan ranks 14th on Baseball America’s rankings, Soto does not appear on the higher end of any ranking set.

Even without the same level and depth of scouting that comes with some higher ranked names in the upcoming IFA class, Soto’s signing will understandably get Mets fans imaginations flowing. The elder Soto debuted at 19, and looked the part of a superstar immediately. Good pedigree doesn’t guarantee the same ascension timeline for Elián, but that won’t stop the “what if” dreams.

If Elián Soto were to be establish himself as a legitimate Mets prospect by 2025, when a certain older brother should find himself in unrestricted free agency then this signing could be the catalyst for an even larger one.
