The New York Mets have announced RHP Jacob Rhame has been recalled to be the 26th man on the roster for today’s doubleheader against the Philadelphia Phillies.  As this was a doubleheader scheduled more than two days in advance, Rhame will be available to pitch out of the Mets bullpen in both games of the doubleheader.

The 26th Man Rule was first put into effect for the 2012 season, and former Met Jeremy Hefner would become the first ever Major League player to enter a game as the 26th man on a Major League roster.

While Rhame would not typically be permitted to be called up this soon after his being sent down to Triple-A, the 26th Man Rule does make a provision for a recently demoted player to be added to the Major League roster within 10 days of his demotion.  The caveat here is Rhame cannot stay on the Major League roster past the second game of the doubleheader unless he becomes a replacement for a player who goes on the disabled list.

Since making the Opening Day roster, this will mark his eighth separate stint on the Mets Major League roster this season.  In his 20 appearances for the Mets, Rhame is 0-2 with a 7.97 ERA, 1.623 WHIP, and a 6.6 K/9.
