Rivera 2

For the second week in a row, players from the Mets organization were honored by Minor League Baseball. T.J. Rivera of the Las Vegas 51s and Ricky Knapp of the St. Lucie Mets, were honored by MiLB for their contributions to their respective teams. Both players were also selected here at MMN as players of the week within the organization.

Rivera, snubbed for promotion when the Mets brought Matt Reynolds east, took his frustration out on the baseball. Rivera was selected as the Pacific Coast League (PCL) hitter of the week, hitting for a .576 average with one HR and 12 RBI on the week since being bypassed. He now sits atop the PCL leader board in RBI with 40, hits with 56, his .378 batting average on the year sits second, and his .980 OPS is currently fourth.

Ricky Knapp

Knapp was also honored as the Florida State League (FSL) Pitcher of the week. He struck out four, allowing three hits, without issuing a walk in a complete game shutout of the Clearwater Threshers. On the season Knapp has 4-2 record with a 1.96 ERA while allowing less than a hit an inning.

With Rafael Montero having been selected last week after out dueling top prospect Julio Urias. That makes two straight weeks, which is a trend in the right direction. With P.J. Conlon on the mound tonight, and scheduled for two starts, I am making an early prediction as to next week’s winner.
