Ronny Mauricio was the only Mets prospect to appear in winter league action on Sunday, but he had a huge impact with both his bat and legs in Licey’s 6-0 victory. Box Score

Mauricio continued his ridiculously hot start to the LIDOM season with yet another multi-hit game. His biggest hit of the game came in the third inning with two outs and a runner on third base. With the count 1-2, Mauricio connected for a two-run home run that put Licey ahead 3-0. While home runs have become a relatively frequent occurrence in recent years for Mauricio, this home run was quite unusual: it was an inside-the-park homer on a line drive that snuck its way past the diving center fielder.

In his next at-bat, Mauricio brought home another run on a line-drive single to center field, making the score 5-0 in the fifth inning. When the next batter stepped to the plate, Mauricio promptly stole second base, his fifth steal in just eight games. So far, he is a perfect 5-for-5 in stolen bases in the winter league season. He was, however, picked off second base immediately after his steal.

So far this season, Mauricio has recorded at least one hit in seven of eight games and has multiple hits in five of those games. Remarkably, he has also walked three times in those eight games after walking just 24 times in 123 games this season. Mauricio leads the league in steals, runs batted in, and hits, while his OPS ranks second among all players with at least 10 at-bats.

Mauricio will attempt to continue his excellent season when the Tigres del Licey play against the Estrellas Orientales on Monday evening.
