Ronny Mauricio kept his hot start to winter ball action in the Dominican going on Sunday night with two more hits for the Tigres del Licey. The 22-year-old went 2-for-4 with his second triple and his fifth RBI.

With the Tigres del Licey down one run in the ninth inning, Mauricio walked with one out to bring the go-ahead run to the plate in Jorge Alfaro. In a weird-looking play, Alfaro was hit by a pitch, but Mauricio was the one who ended up leaving the game after having trouble going to second base. Mauricio looked like he was trying to get a jump to steal second, though he then tried to stop abruptly and dropped down to a knee initially. He was shaking his right leg and left with a trainer as he appeared to be limping a little bit.

Mauricio has been hitting since he joined winter ball this year, with a 1.178 OPS, two stolen bases, and five extra-base hits. He has also gone five straight games without an error in the field and four of those games came at third base. He had a rough start to the season fielding with four errors in his first two games, all at third base.

New York Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said during the winter meetings that the team is set at third base while mentioning Mauricio and Brett Baty as the top in-house candidates.
