On this Friday as every Friday comes around in Minor League Land, so does Baseball America’s Hot Sheet, and this week is very special since the Mets’ top shortstop prospect Amed Rosario placed #1 for his performances from April 22nd to the 28th. During the week, Rosario hit .375/.407/.750 with a double, triple, two home runs, while driving in twelve, striking out five times and walking once. This is what they had to say on Rosario:
Rosario is a talented prospect, but when the Mets jumped the teenager to the Florida State League last year after he spent 2014 in the short-season New York-Penn League, the move proved to be too ambitious. He was able to tread water in 2015, but his modest performance didn’t reflect his considerable upside. Back in the FSL for round two, Rosario is off to a terrific start. He already has three home runs after going without a homer the entire 2015 season. The minors are chock full of talented shortstops off to excellent starts, but Rosario’s stock is certainly up as his game performance starts to break through. – Ben Badler
Rosario has continued to have outdone himself as the third youngest in the Florida State League, but you’ll hear soon enough in Mets Daddy’s next column.
Writer’s Note: While we believe that while Amed Rosario is more than worthy for the top honor of the Hot Sheet, we would like to add that Vinny Siena is more than deserving for a spot on the hot sheet as well with a .474/.577/.737 performance last week, with a .517 OBP for the season so far. Both Siena and Rosario made our Who’s Hot, Who’s Not list this week as well.
I’m amped about Rosario. He’s putting impressive power numbers and he’s living up to his high profile int’l pedigree.
Teddy, if he’s in AA end of year … has he leapfrogged Gavin on depth chart?
Possibly if Cecchini isn’t able to become anything in AAA, however, I think his performance has changed. However, Rosario is the Mets’ guy..
I’m still anticipating a pre Cinco de Mayo promotion to Bing for him
That would be a nice party.
