The New York Mets have promoted first round draft pick 3B Brett Baty to the Kingsport Mets of the Appalachian League after just five games. Kenneth Levin of Amazin Avenue was the first to tweet out the transaction.

In his five games in the Gulf Coast League, Baty hit .350/.480/.650 with three doubles, a homer, and eight RBI. With the homer today, Baty now has a hit in all five of his professional games and an extra base hit in four of those five games. Yesterday, Baty hit his first professional home run which was a first inning opposite field grand slam:

An interesting note here is this is a rather quick promotion. For example, last year, the Mets waited 12 games before promoting first round pick Jarred Kelenic from the GCL to Kingsport. It should be noted here Baty is similar to Kelenic in that he was an “older” teenage draft pick by the Mets organization, so it would seem the Mets are following a similar developmental plan which has served another prospect well.

Joining Baty in Kingsport will be INF Angel Manzanarez. He appeared in four games for Brooklyn hitting .250/.308/.333. He will be replaced on Brooklyn’s roster by LHP Josh Walker on a rehab assignment. The left-handed reliever has made just one relief appearance all season allowing two earned on three hits for the GCL Mets.

In other moves, OF Zach Rheams has been transferred from Brooklyn to Columbia. This will be his second stint with the Fireflies this year with him hitting .234/.294/.340 in 14 games. OF Jose Medina has been promoted from Brooklyn to St. Lucie. In 28 games between Brooklyn, Columbia, and St. Lucie, he is hitting .172/.243/.204.
