New York Mets fan-favorite and unintentional catalyst of the 2015 National League champion squad, Ruben Tejada, hit for the cycle on Wednesday night for Triple-A Syracuse.
Tejada, 29, spent the first six years of his MLB career with the Mets after being signed by the club in 2006 out of Panama (.255/.330/.323 86 wRC+, .293 wOBA over 580 games in Queens) before moving on after the 2015 season.
The eight-year MLB veteran signed a minor-league contract with the Mets on March 23 and entered Wednesday slashing .333/.433/.494 through 24 games with Syracuse (104 plate appearances).
Facing the Charlotte Knights at BB&T Ballpark, Tejada got the scoring started early for the Mets, crushing a two-run homer (scoring Gregor Blanco) to stake Syracuse to a 2-0 lead.
He tripled to lead off the top of the third, eventually coming around to score, putting the Mets ahead 3-2, and kicked off the fifth with a double to left, scoring on Rene Rivera‘s two-run homer in the next at-bat to give Syracuse a 5-3 lead.
Tejada laced a one-out single to right in the sixth inning to complete the feat.
Dilson Herrera stood a triple away from a cycle of his own as of the middle of the sixth. Keep it locked onto MMO and MMN for updates.
